The Just Us League Painted For Charity at Bryan Street Tavern on Friday Night.
Bryan Street Tavern was crowded Friday night with anxious art lovers. In particular, the back patio was especially full, as members of The Just Us League teamed up to paint their newest monthly mural.
This months theme? Summer Nights. And it was easy to see that much shine through as they worked on their extravagant, starry, extraterrestrial masterpiece.
The Just Us League is a group of 146 volunteer artists that meets once a month to paint a mural together at a public place — all for people to observe and enjoy. At the end of the year, they gather their 12 huge paintings and auction them off to the public to raise money for charity.
They raised $17,000 last year alone, and, in doing so, provided the entire year's curriculum for ArtLoveMagic, the local nonprofit that provides art supplies for creative kids in need.
On Friday, more than a dozen artists crowded around the the shared canvas for four hours at a time, each putting their spin on the Summer Nights mural while the crowd around them enjoyed free beer, wine and a DJ played music to keep the mood light.
The Just Us League folks, meanwhile, did their part too, asking inspired would-be painters in the crowd to join in on the fun.
And, by the end of the night, at least a few had.
