A Look at the New Ice Cream Taco At Pokey O's.
Prior to this weekend, Pokey O's has been primarily known for its decadent ice cream cookie sandwiches. But that could all change when the SMU-neighborhood ice creamery rolls out their new creation the ice cream taco starting Sunday, May 5, aka Cinco de Mayo.
To hear Pokey O's owner Kathy Oszustowicz explain it, the highly-anticipated treat has been in the making since the beginning of the year, and through a series of trial and error the shop is finally happy and confident with the final product. Well, almost perfect; the name could still use a little work, Oszustowicz admits.
What really sets this ice cream taco from, say, a Choco Taco though — other than overall freshness and generous portion size — is the treat's customizability.
When ordering the ice cream taco, patrons are offered a variety of options to make their treat unique: the waffle cone “shell” comes in both chocolate and traditional; 16 flavors of Blue Bell ice cream make up the choices for filling; the homemade “magic shell” comes in your choice of chocolate, white chocolate, butterscotch or peanut butter; and toppings like peanuts, M&Ms, and rainbow sprinkles are but a few options to finish your creation off with.
While the recent cold front may seem like an inopportune time to roll out a new ice cream-based product, we tend to disagree. Just think of it this way, colder temperatures equal slower melting.
