Craft and Growler Finally Opens.
Finally, the long-awaited Craft and Growler has opened in Exposition Park, directly across from the main entrance into Fair Park.
Here's what you need to know: Craft and Growler is a great big bar that sells over 30 craft beers, with a focus on on Texas and Dallas-area drafts. They also allow you to purchase “beer fills” to take home.
Before you say anything: No, they aren't the first in Dallas to do this. Whole Foods sells growlers and beer fills, too. But Craft and Growler is the first freestanding bar focusing on craft beers, beer fills and growler sales.
Oh, and their space is amazing.
A huge bar covers the entire back wall of the building and large tables that seat 15 to 20 people take up the rest of the space. You can bring your own food in, too, making this place a fine option for large parties — perfect, really, for the holidays and birthdays.
Here's how it works: You can sit at the bar and drink normal-sized beers from Craft and Growler's taps, or you can bring in your own container and purchase a beer fill to take home. Your container can really be anything so long as you know its volume and so long as it has a lid. They'll even let you sample beers while you're making your purchase decision.
Of course, if your life is a container-less one, Craft and Growler sells some really cool growlers of their own, and they also offer disposable growlers to boot.
Among the more interesting beers on tap: Revolver Bock Ale, Cedar Creek Elliott's Pale Ale, Cedar Creek Scruffy's Smoked Alt, Ranger Creek, and Deep Ellum Brewing Co.'s IPA. As of last night, the spot also started offering Live Oak Primus, Lakewood Hop Trapp and Peticolas Velvet Hammer.
Technically, the space is in “soft opening” mode still., but that shouldn't stop you. (See comments.)
The doors are open from noon to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from noon to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, and from noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays. (They're closed on Mondays.)
Where there's a beer fill, there's a way.
