Scenes From Friday Night's Calvin Harris Set at Lizard Lounge.
Here's how much hype there was for Scottish DJ Calvin Harris' Lizard Lounge set on Friday night: By 9:30, the line to get into the venue already stretched halfway down the block from the entrance. There, girls wearing next to nothing braved the unusual chill, sure that they'd warm up soon enough, dancing to their heart's delight inside.
Once inside, however, the normally spacious club was jam-packed. By 11 o'clock, the place was at near capacity. Even the DJs in the club's side room — Raydar and Shaolin — were playing to a room of almost elbow-to-elbow people at one point before Calvin Harris took the stage.
In the big room, opening DJs Johnny Funk and Doorly brought a calm to the ever-growing throng with their selections and, in Doorly's case, a little turntablism, too.
Later, when Harris, the man behind so many of the most popular remixes and singles of 2012, stepped onto the stage, the room couldn't hold in their excitement any longer.
The whole place exploded in a deafening roar. A sea of hands went up. Chanting began.
Before long, the dimmed lights gave way to the cascade of energy and sound coming from the main stage. No, Harris did not come to mess around on this night.
Then again, judging from the number of people that showed up to this affair, neither did Dallas.
