Beat The Heat With These Tasty Summer Jams.
We're back! After a long hiatus caused by a little work and a whole lot of margarita-induced hangovers, Download This! is back to soundtrack your life.
This week's songs were hand-selected to help you beat the heat. You may take that either as a reference to the impending sweltering Texas weather doom or to the NBA Playoffs.
Because fuck Lebron, right?
“Back to the Sun/Girlfriend Swap” — Roommates
Guitars drenched in reverb and irresistible hook up to turn this beachy rock song into a stellar summer anthem. After all, if a carefree summer isn't the perfect time for a girlfriend swap, then when is?
“Afria Talks To You” — Delicate Steve
On this track, Delicate Steve sounds like a — dare I say it — better and buzzier Ratatat. Oh yeah. It's that good.
“Getaway Tonight” — Opossom
“I just want to get away tonight.” Isn't that everyone's warm weather mantra? Opossom take that universal feeling and make it sound oh so good.
“I Look To You (ft. Kimbra)” — Miami Horror
Another oldie, sure, but this was actually the song that introduced me to Kimbra before she blew up on that one Gotye song. With its horn section and four-to-the-floor kick, “I Look To You” is pop perfection. Also, Kimbra's debut album, Vows, finally came out in the U.S. yesterday, so go get it!
“My Heart Beats” — Veronica Falls
Like all good U.K. bands should, Veronica Falls combines the best elements of twee, beach rock and The Verve to create another summery pop-rock wonder.
“Stare Into The Sun” — Graffiti 6
What better way to round it all out than with the irresistible neo-soul duo Graffiti 6? This song makes me want to jump on a bike, ride down some flower-lined road and never look back.
