Well, Here's Barney & Friends Lip-Syncing NWA.
Exhibit No. 23,957 that the internet is a weird place: The video at the bottom of this post, which features the cast of Barney & Friends edited to look like they're rapping NWA's “Straight Outta Compton,” was originally posted to YouTube in 2008 but has been making the circles this week and popping up on various content-sharing sites (Reddit! The Chive!) because, yeah, it is kinda funny to see footage of figures from one's childhood being remixed to make it look like they're rapping such lines as “word to the motherfucker,” I suppose, but also because people don't really look at timestamps, maybe?
Regardless how this came to be, there are actually three reasons why this clip — which features Scooter McNutty as Dr. Dre, Barney as Ice Cube, B.J. as MC Ren and Baby Bop as Eazy-E — is notable, at least locally.
For one thing, there's that NWA biopic that's coming out later this year and the fact that a certain local rapper is working with a certain former NWA member. Also, there's the fact that Barney & Friends was created by a Dallasite and filmed locally. And third, there's the oft-forgotten story about how Dallas' KNON was one of the first stations in the country to give NWA any airtime.
So, there you go. Watch the clip, which once again just goes to show you that Barney is not what you thought he was, in the below embed. The best part, for my money, is when B.J. comes on as Ren. But that's just me.
