The Owners Of Filmore Pub's Next Project? Revamping An Old, Long-Vacant Deep Ellum Spot.
[Editor's note: An earlier version of this story that featured an interview with CBC's owners seems to have vanished. What follows are the key facts you need to know about the joint before it opens its doors later this year.]
The property in question here is the rundown-looking white building with blue trim with the word “Restaurant” simply painted in red lettering across its front. You know it: It sits near the corner of Main and Exposition on the outskirts of Deep Ellum.
For nearly 40 years, the spot was occupied by soul food restaurant Vern's Kitchen until it vacated the spot in 2007.
It was purchased last year by Kelly Wesner and Gabe Whatley, who own and operate The Fillmore Pub in Plano and The Pub in McKinney.
After renovations to the property — which will include adding a large fence around the main building — the pair hopes to open a new bar called Cold Beer Company (or CBC for short) by the summer of 2014. While the primary vibe of the place will be a beer garden/patio, the owners told us that they plan on serving a small number of food items as well, including sandwiches made with meats and cheeses from fellow Deep Ellum businesses Rudolph's Market and The Mozzarella Company.
