Ain't No Party Like An Art Con Seed Party.
As expected, Saturday evening's Art Conspiracy-fueled RZN8 event, which combined live music, live art auctions and even mixology into a tightly wound merging of Dallas cultural touchstones, drew quite the crowd to Life in Deep Ellum's pristine, if underused, confines.
Better yet, the event seemed to do its job of raising funds for Girls Rock Dallas and W.T. White High School quite well.
A couple of auctioned-off art pieces, all of which incorporated this year's chosen theme of speakers into their concepts, went for upwards of $1,000, including a Kevin Obregon-crafted fly piece that, for much of the crowd, was the talk of the event.
But, philanthropic as the event may have been, it wasn't all about the party's charitable aspects.
Indeed, through performances from Home by Hovercraft, Kirby Brown, Spookeasy and a light-up pyramid-assisted Datahowler and through cocktails blended by the staff of Black Swan Saloon, there was plenty of fun to be had on top of all of the giving going on.
Really, that seems to be where Art Con's events truly thrive. Perhaps no other organization in town does as good a job of combining good times and good causes as this eight-years-running organization does.
And, indeed, on Saturday night, Art Con mixed those two notions quite well.
