Scenes From The 2015 North Texas Comic Book Show.
Comic book fans from all across Texas stopped by the Doubletree Hotel at Market Center to check out the North Texas Comic Book Show on Saturday. A smaller affair than most area conventions — and a welcome change of pace from the larger cons, really — attendees spent the day browsing through the convention's two ballrooms, mingling with on-site artists and booked guest stars while showcasing their own creativity through cosplay.
It was impressive: Braving the July heat in heavy latex masks and carrying around heavy props all day is no joke; this cosplayer community dedication, perhaps as is to be expected, proved the highlight of my visit.
But the North Texas Comic Book Show has promise elsewhere, too. Featuring such inner-circle icons as Marvel artists Larry Strohman and Keith Pollard, plus Battlestar Galactica actor (both series!) Richard Hatch among its guests, the young fest's also shown a knack for smart talent booking — something the rabid fans on hand clearly appreciate.
In all, this weekend showcased a smart and continued growth for the North Texas Comic Book show — an indication, one assumes, of bigger venues and bright futures to come.
