Breakout Orange Is The New Black Star Ruby Rose Will DJ It'll Do To Kick Off Pride Weekend.
Update on September 10, 2015: Word just dropped that this event will no longer be going down in conjunction with Pride Weekend, as the appearance has been moved back a couple months. Below is the official statement from Donnie Disco Presents, one of the entities behind the event.
“Due to a major film commitment, the Ruby Rose show at It’ll Do in Dallas Thursday, September 17th, 2015 has been rescheduled to Friday December 4th 2015 at It’ll Do Club in Dallas.
Tickets bought previously will be honored and ages and event times will remain the same. If you would like a refund, and purchased with a credit card, please email [email protected].”
Original story: The weird connections between Dallas and Netflix's Orange Is The New Black continue: Just moments ago, the Dallas event production company Full Access announced that breakout OITNB Season 3 star Ruby Rose will be coming to town to DJ at It'll Do on Thursday, September 17. Her performance will serve as the kickoff to the 2015 Dallas Pride Weekend festivities.
Rose, who plays the rebellious love interest Stella on the show, is actually a fine choice to kick off the celebrations, too: More than just a flashy marquee name, Rose came out as a lesbian at age 12 and has since used her fame — before introducing herself to U.S. audiences via OITNB, she earned her living as a model, as an MTV Australia VJ and, yes, as an accomplished DJ, too — to speak out against gender stereotypes. A Youtube video touching on the subject — one that she wrote, produced and stars in — has been viewed more than 10 million times to date.
Curious as to what to expect from her DJ set? A visit to her Soundcloud page should help there.
Ticket prices for the party have yet to be announced, but we can confirm that they will be going on sale right here starting at noon on Thursday, August 13. So, y'know, keep your eyes open.
