The Outfit, TX Looked The Part This Week.
Each week, we take a survey of the local music scene and try to determine which acts in town are really putting in work and seeing it pay off. Which bands have the most intriguing shows coming up? Which bands are getting the most press around town? Which bands have accomplished the most notable feats of late? Based off these criteria, our music writers submit a list to be weighted and compiled into a master list revealed each week in this here space. We like to think it's fairly revealing. Check out our previous Buzz Rankings here.
After weeks and weeks of utter domination of these here Buzz Rankings by one Leon Bridges, it's perhaps a refreshing change of pace that this week's Buzz champs — The Outfit, TX — is an entity that's never previously topped our weekly local music power rankings.
The group finds itself atop the Buzz Rankings thanks largely to its new Deep Ellum EP, which earned its release this week. It's an admiral thing, too, because the thing's not only been earning national attention for The Outfit, TX itself, but also, very much intentionally, shining a spotlight onto the scene as a whole.
The iron's especially hot right now, too. Other members of Dallas' hip-hop scene earning national love of their own this week include Sam Lao, Blue, the Misfit, Snow tha Product and SikWitIt. And taking a step farther back and outside of hip-hip, Jonathan Tyler and Radioactivity earned Rolling Stone nods thanks to their own new albums.
On a similar note, Buffalo Black, Charley Crockett, Salim Nourallah, Vincent Neil Emerson, PVC Street Gang and The Hundred Inevitables each earned their respective spots in the rankings thanks to new singles, albums and music videos that we're either announced or released this week.
Elsewhere: On the live show front, expats Somebody's Darling and Power Trip return home this week; Sealion, Party Static and Moon Waves had tour kickoff shows; The Birds of Night and Valise were tapped to perform at Untapped Dallas; and Ishi, Sealion and Blue, the Misfit sold out Trees at last week's Sound Select show.
