This Week, Post Malone Found His Purpose.

Each week, we take a survey of the local music scene and try to determine which acts in town are really putting in work and seeing it pay off. Which bands have the most intriguing shows coming up? Which bands are getting the most press around town? Which bands have accomplished the most notable feats of late? Based off these criteria, our music writers submit a list to be weighted and compiled into a master list revealed each week in this here space. We like to think it's fairly revealing. Check out our previous Buzz Rankings here.

With no offense to M83, Beach House or Melanie Martinez, the biggest show coming to town this week is that of one Justin Bieber, who is coming to the American Airlines Center this Sunday night. And warming up the stage for Yung Biebs is none other than Southlake's own Yung Posty, a.k.a. Post Malone.

Playing for 20,000 fans at the AAC is without a doubt the trap singer's highest-profile local gig to date. It's enough to earn Mr. White Iverson his third trip to the top of our weekly, local music power rankings anyway.

But let's not forget so quickly that The Polyphonic Spree had a high-profile gig of its own this past week, performing alongside a Who's Who of industry greats at Radio City Music Hall this past Friday as part of that big David Bowie tribute concert. Then there's the coolest man in gospel (read: Kirk Franklin), who is headlining The Majestic this weekend while LeAnn Rimes headlines Billy Bob's.

Maybe the coolest show of the weekend, though, will see Bobby Sessions backed by R.C. & The Gritz this Friday at Three Links. It'll be like that legendary Jay-Z Unplugged show where he performed with The Roots, only exponentially more local.

Dalton Rapottoni, who was booted from Idol, had a pretty great week, too. Hey, third place ain't so bad! Just look at all the press/buzz it's been worth already.

Elsewhere: Randy Travis cracked the Country Music Hall of Fame; John Congleton, Danny Diamonds and Ronnie Heart released new albums; Jon Christopher Davis broke in the airport's new stage and St. Vincent figured out what Clickhole is.
