Wu-Tang, Empire of the Sun, Matt & Kim, Ra Ra Riot to Play Massive Fest at FC Dallas Stadium.
Well, it's official: August and September are going to be insane, at least music festival-wise.
In addition to the previously announced Mad Decent Block Party coming to the West End on August 31 and the September 7 return of the Dallas version of the Untapped Festival, which just this afternoon announced a strong lineup of its own, today brings news of another crazy impressive offering altogether.
In Frisco, no less.
On Saturday, September 21, the Breakaway Festival will make its Dallas debut at FC Dallas Stadium with a day-long affair promising performances from 30-plus bands across three stages, along with various other rides and attractions. According to the above-linked festival web site, the early-announced lineup for this deal is especially nuts-o: Wu-Tang Clan, Empire of the Sun, Big Gigantic, Matt & Kim, Explosions in the Sky, Juicy J, Crizzy, Danny Avila and Ra Ra Riot will all perform at the festival. So, too, will locals Lil Twist, Booty Fade, Dark Rooms, Oil Boom and DJ Yeahdef.
Tickets will start at $49, with VIP packages running $119. Pre-sales start here on June 18, and a public on-sale follows on June 21.
The Dallas festival comes as one of two such Major League Soccer stadium-hosted affairs coming in September from the Prime Social promotions group behind the brand. A separate Breakaway Festival will take place the weekend before the Dallas version in Prime Social's hometown of Columbus, Ohio, and will feature performances from Kendrick Lamar, Empire of the Sun, Bassnectar, Tokyo Police Club and more.
It seems, too, that this is just the start of Prime Social's foray into Dallas. Says Prime Social co-founder Adam Lynn in an interview posted by Billboard earlier today: “The idea here is to not keep these as single-day events, but the first year made sense to do it just on the Saturday. By 2014 and 2015, we expect two- and three-day events for both markets [Columbus and Dallas]. We are going to build this brand year by year until we believe it can sustain a multi-day.”
In other words: If this fest goes well, we can expect more from Prime Social in the future.
Also? Sleep now. Festival season is coming up faster than you might expect.
