Oaktopia Announces Local Performers For 2016 Lineup, Ups Bill To Some 90 Bands.
We’ve already gushed a few times now over the lineup for the 2016 edition of Denton’s Oaktopia Festival, and we’d say rightly so. I mean, they’ve already got Norah Jones, Rae Sremmurd, Beirut, Cat Power, Best Coast, Wavves, Erykah Badu (DJ set), Andrew WK, White Denim, Lee Field, Mates of State and more playing the thing, then just recently low-key added Jakob Dylan and Jason Lytle (and other) playing Tom Petty covers to the bill.
Well, today marks the last day of announcements for the September 22, 23 and 24 affair, it seems. This morning, organizers announced the remaining acts being booked to this year’s bill, upping the overall count to 90-plus acts, with these more recent additions being billed as performing at Oaktopia’s “Blood Moon Parties” scheduled to go down at various venues around Downtown Denton (the headliners will perform on outdoor stages). Not sure why they’re calling them that — there’s no blood moon scheduled to happen around then, just a harvest moon the week before, but, hey, I guess it’s still pretty cool-sounding.
Highlights among this recent announcement include Central Track-approved acts such as 88 Killa, Alsace Carcione, AV The Great, Cozy Hawks, Dark Rooms, Fishboy, Jacob Metcalf, Jenna Clark, Jessie Frye, Leoncarlo, Pearl Earl, R!U!O!K! and a set from -topic and Koolquise — plus earlier-announced acts Jonathan Tyler, Nicole Atkins and The Whigs, whose shows, it’s now clear, will be taking part during these nighttime showcases.
