35 Denton Announces Initial 2015 Bill Featuring The Zombies, More.
After taking a year off to reorganize, the organizers of the 35 Denton Festival have been gearing up for a triumphant return in 2015. We know this because, just this morning, we got word that '60s Brit-rock legends The Zombies will be serving as one of the fest's headlining acts when it comes back to life this March.
Fitting, right?
It's a decent get for this mostly different group of staffers than has worked for the festival in years past. For instance, one of the newcomers to 35 Denton's booking staff is Dallas Distortion Music's 18-year-old co-founder, Evan Henry, who tells us it's been a hell of a lot of pressure thus far booking what's historically been “a rad fucking festival.”
The addition of Henry and other new staffers aren't the only changes for the fest this time around, either. For one thing, 35 Denton will be a three-day fest this year, taking place from Friday, March 13, through Sunday, March 15. Also, says Henry, the budget's remarkably smaller this year, too. In other words: “There's going to be a lot of names nobody recognizes just yet,” Henry says.
That much won't be all that different from previous incarnations of the fest, which have largely been praised for its crops of cutting edge acts that it's booked in the past, many of which tend to blow up a year or two later (see: Mac Demarco, who performed at the 2013 festival, and whose 2014 Salad Days LP was No. 2 on NME's Top 50 Albums of 2014 list). Only, you can expect things to lean even farther in that direction in 2015.
“35 Denton's has a name that it's got to live up to,” Henry says. “But being pushed back to a three-day festival, and the decreased booking staff, there's going to be a greater local presence. Before, it's been local bands opening for touring bands. [This year] it's going to be a good amount of local bands headlining.”
Early bird tickets for the three-day festival are currently on sale for $35 right here. Look for more acts to be added to the lineup in the coming weeks.
For now, though, you can find the first 38 acts booked for the fest's sixth incarnation and a promo video for the fest below.
