He Was Late and His Set Was Too Short. But Action Bronson Still Wowed at Dada Last Night.

Last night at Dada, Queens rapper and one-time chef Action Bronson put on a frenzied and crowd-pleasing performance — all right before he literally walked out of the venue's front door to catch a flight out of town.

It took a while before things got to that point, though.

Earlier in the night, Oak Cliff's own Dustin Cavazos kicked things off while donning a sharp, all-black ensemble not all that dissimilar from A.Dd+'s new look. (A.Dd+'s Slim Gravy happened to be in the house for the show, interestingly enough. So, too, was Dallas hip-hop legend Tum Tum.) Cavazos mostly performed new material from his upcoming album In and Out of Sleep and, certainly, his energy caught the audience's attention. Before his set, the venue was rather sleep. And, much to Cavazos' credit, he woke the place up — only to watch things again calm down, unfortunately.

After Cavzaos' 25-minute set, the crowd cooled back for an hour-long wait as Bronson's DJ worked through technical issues. The house DJ for the night, Internet Trap God, and the thrilling conclusion to the Patriots-Ravens game on the two TVs above the venue's bar kept the crowd from growing too restless.

But, still, it was a long wait. Finally, at around 11 o'clock, Bronson, who himself admitted to growing restless and smoking through all his weed during the wait, took the stage and jumped quickly into his set.

After a couple songs, without any explanation, Bronson walked into the crowd and spent the rest of his night among the audience for the majority of his set. He hammed it up for these crowds, too, performing among his fans while posing for and rhyming into any and all camera phones thrust in his face.

But, less than half an hour after starting his set, Bronson cut things show. Apologizing to the crowd for having to catch a 4 a.m. flight, he passed his mic to the stage and walked out Dada's front door, headed solo down Elm Street with no particular destination explained.

Yeah, it may have been a short offering. But it was certainly a memorable one.
