What Is It? And Why Should You Care?

You know those tweets you sometimes see, especially from rappers, that are like, “Man, it's all about collaboration. Let's rise up together!” and whatnot? The ones where people respond like, “Yeah!” but then nothing ever really happens because most people, it turns out, are all talk and no walk?

The tweets you've been seeing this week — y'know, those ones marked with the”#DallasWeek hashtag? — they aren't that. Matter of fact, they're the exact opposite.

Here's the gist of what's happening with these tweets: A couple weeks ago, a number of promoters in town realized that, all this upcoming calendar week, there were some strong hip-hop-related events happening across the city. And rather than bitch about it through subtweets and behind-the-back chatter, bringing each of these shows down in the process, they chose to do something about it, turning this potential weakness into a tangible strength by instead working together to promote the whole sum as something greater than its individual parts.

So that's what #DallasWeek is, in a nutshell.

In other words: It's a celebration (bitches) of Dallas hip-hop, with various promoters from across the city working together to make sure the public knows about some of the best hip-hop that this city has to offer — and that, lucky for all involved, there are numerous events going down next week where people can sample that goodness for themselves.

That's 10 events in seven days, man. Ten.

Among the crown jewels of the week, of course, is what essentially boils down to the hometown debut from suburban Dallas-sprung blog sensation Post Malone, who'll be performing his first formal set at Trees on Saturday, May 30, since his song “White Iverson” turned him into the buzzing rapper of this spring.

Just as exciting, though, is the fact that this show will, in addition to sets from Post's fellow-up-and-comers in Philly's Lil Uzi Vert and Atlanta's Reese, also include performances from some of Dallas' ready-for-primetime players — an opening performer list we're proud to announce here.

So who's on the bill?

• The entire Crit Life crew
• G.U.N.
• Devy Stonez

Crit Life and Devy Stonez in particular are fast-risers in this city who we've been keeping close tabs on for some time, and we couldn't be more excited to see what they've got coming in store for this show.
