So-So Topic – “Quarantine’s Over”
RIYL: Staying home so we can get through this faster.
What else you should know: Surprisingly, this year has been an apparently inspiring one for So-So Topic. The Dallas-based rapper has dropped an entire mixtape of “rona raps” to bop to.
Even before the country was thrown into chaos, Topic was busy pumping out songs with two back-to-back EPs earlier this year. Then, at the height of self-isolation, he dropped another in April titled #RonaRaps: The Isolation ‘tape.
Much like most of us, Topic has spent his weekends on Instagram, where he hosts his own live series called SoSoSunday to take questions and interact with his fans. If you haven’t tapped in yet, you’re missing out — someone requested he do a backflip in his most recent live, and of course he had to do it for the ‘gram.
His hard work seems to have paid off, too, as the Dallas native recently announced he just been signed to Alpha Pup, a record label out of L.A.
With the release of #RonaRaps: The Isolation ‘tape came many songs chronicling the ups and downs of living during a global pandemic. More than any of the others on the 7-song release, “Quarantine’s Over” gives voice to the things that are missed by socially-distancing while trapped within the confines of home.
“Quarantine’s Over” delivers Topic’s signature alt-rap style on a thematic, timely collection — call that topical. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ll be busy playing this over and over as we close our eyes and imagine a world where quarantine is finally over.
