Our Editor’s Picks For Some Of The Best New Music In North Texas Include Just-Dropped Tracks From Kaash Paige, Sudie, Willo And So Much More.
If you’re familiar with our recurring ‘Song of the Day‘ series, you already know we’re fortunate enough to call home to a city with a healthy heartbeat for local music. But, being that we’re all stuck social distancing through these tough times, here’s hoping this will give you something to help get through them.
Music has been the one thing to lift my spirit on the days that pessimism has crept in during self-isolation. Its warm solace has come in moments of dancing in my kitchen to the new releases I wasn’t expecting to enjoy so much, guiding the jogs around the park next to my apartment under the evening sun, and of course, as a motivation for work.
Anxiety is growing with each week that we’re stuck waiting for the temperature of normalcy to level off again. Times are tough, but you didn’t need me to tell you that.
Right now a lot of our anxiety at Central Track is built on the uncertain future of these strange times — including our own as a publication. Much like your other favorite small businesses, we aren’t immune to the blow this is serving the economy.
We don’t take our opportunity to put on for North Texas lightly, so as you can imagine, knowing that our work here could all come to an end in a matter of weeks is pretty disheartening. Yet somehow, we’ve still managed to retain the biting, punch-above-our-weight verve you’ve come to love — or at least loved to hate. (read: State Fair of Texas stans.)
But we can’t do it alone. So, we’re asking for your support now more than ever so that Central Track can be around to celebrate the good times to be had when this is all over. And so I can keep bringing you playlists like this one featuring music from local acts!
Speaking of that, if you become a patron of ours, I’ll be making a personalized playlist of all-DFW artists for your birthday — just one of the benefits you get from your contribution.
But hey, even if you can’t make a financial contribution, we feel your support just as heavily through your reading and sharing of our work.
So please, keep sending our ridiculous suggestions for things to do while sheltering-in-place to your friends. Or remind people why it’s important to stay the fuck home.
Or just give them something new to be excited about by sharing this playlist with them.
And try to hang in there — we are.
If you’re a musician in DFW who recently dropped something, or you’re just a fan of local music and think something should be on my radar: please don’t hesitate to put me on at [email protected] or @alecspicey on Twitter.
