B.S. Wright – “Silicon Synapses”
RIYL: Drab Majesty, Boy Harsher, She Past Away or any other contemporary acts continuing the dark wave tradition
What else you should know: By now, you certainly know that Denton is home to a burgeoning noise and experimental music scene — one that rivals, if not surpasses, that of any other city in North Texas.

Over the years, acts such as Flesh Narc, They Say the Wind Made Them Crazy, FILTH, Heavy Baby Sea Slugs, Shiny Around the Edges, Terminator 2, Eat Avery’s Bones, Geistheistler, Vaults of Zin, Crisis Actor, Cerulean Giallo and others have played myriad DIY shows in the city, shaping a niche but thriving subculture in the process.

B.S. Wright is of that same circuit, and the experimental solo act released its fifth full-length album Xenia this past Thursday.

Opening track “Silicon Synapses” kicks things off with an opening drum machine riff that makes use of an upbeat tempo and an abrasive, synthetic snare drum sound. This percussion instrumental comes off like something one would hear in a Godflesh song (sans any other instruments, of course) laid beneath Wright’s lower vocal register, which comes into play via a despondent, reverb-soaked delivery. The drum machine is then left to its own devices as a variation of synth instrumentals come into the picture.

If an artist with the stylistic sensibilities of industrial/gothic torchbearers such as Clan of Xymox, Throbbing Gristle, Fields of the Nephilim, Chrome, Suicide or Cabaret Voltaire sounds up your alley, you’ll dig this.
