Also Among This Week’s Upcoming Dallas-Area Shows You Should Know: Break Science, Terror Jr., U.S. Girls, Hot Snakes, Mr. Twin Sister, Al Gore, The Cult, Pile, Lucero, Knuckle Puck, Korn, Alice in Chains, Mana, Herb Alpert, Big Thief & More.

Earlier this week, Payless Inc., the company behind Payless Shoe Source, filed for bankruptcy protection, adding even more to the mountain of evidence of the existence of what experts call the “retail apocalypse.” This phenomenon is frequently attributed to Amazon’s expanding ubiquity and, in general, the unrivaled convenience e-commerce provides to consumers.

You may be able to circumvent the experience of purchasing goods via brick and mortar businesses, but nobody in Silicon Valley has made the concert experience as antiquated as the retail experience. At least not yet.

So enjoy as many shows while you can, and look no further than the list below for ideas on where to start.

NSFWknd
Tuesday, March 12 – Sunday, March 17, in Deep Ellum
On sale now.
As per usual, more SXSW bands are making their way through Dallas for this year’s NSFWknd. Ritt Momney (we’ll spare you the rant about bands who use spoonerisms to name themselves since we already did that for Com Truise’s most recent show announce) plays Dada on Friday, March 15, with The Bralettes and Gymshorts, while Colton Werner opens for Ryley Walker at The Foundry. Other acts that have been added: Abjects, T. Hardy Morris, Big Bliss, Blushh, NOTS, Hash Redactor, Frozen Soul, Massters, Suntitle and Barrie.

Break Science
Sunday, March 17, at Trees
On sale now.
The Brooklyn electronic duo plays a rather last-minute show at Trees on St. Patrick’s Day immediately following SXSW.

Terror Jr.
Monday, April 8, at Trees
On sale now.
Remember the Cataracs? One of the members of that project formed Terror Jr. in 2016. They achieved hype after one of their singles was used for a Kylie Jenner lip gloss commercial, and they didn’t use an orange tile on Instagram to make it happen, either.

BAYNK
Friday, April 12, at Dada
On sale now.
Says Ones To Watch on the New Zealand artist and producer: “His soundscape surfs between future bass and tropical house, bringing the beaches of New Zealand directly to your speakers with live instrumentation atop catchy summery synths.” And who are we to argue.

Seth Meyers
Friday, April 19, at Majestic Theatre
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
SNL alumnus and current host of the same late night franchise that was once hosted by David Letterman, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon brings his live comedy show to Dallas.

U.S. Girls
Monday, April 22, at Dada
On sale now.
You probably saw the band’s In a Poem Unlimited on a few “best of 2018” year-end album lists. That is completely justified.

Hot Snakes
Friday, April 26, at Curtain Club
On sale now.
This almost makes up for Drive Like Jehu skipping Dallas during their reunion tour. Almost. Mannequin Pussy opens.

Mr. Twin Sister
Thursday, May 2, at Dada
On sale now.
Once upon a time, chillwave was a thing, and Mr. Twin Sister (FKA Twin Sister) was making waves in that circuit. Chillwave has lost its footing in the indie landscape, but the Long Island outfit remains undeterred. In October 2018, they released Salt, their first full-length album in five years.

JMBLYA
Friday, May 3, at Fair Park
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
As we have previously discussed, this year’s JMBLYA lineup includes headlining sets from Travis Scott and Lil Wayne, and supporting sets from Kevin Gates, Gunna, Sheck Wes, Youngboy Never Broke Again, Bhad Bhabie, Blueface, City Girls, Maxo Kream, P-Lo, 10k.caash and Whookilledkenny. Still no Cardi B, but hey, beggars can’t be choosers.

Al Gore
Friday, May 3, at Toyota Music Factory
On sale Thursday, February 28, at 10 a.m.
The former Vice President and notorious environmental activist will be doing a speaking engagement of sorts.

The Cult
Thursday, May 9, at House of Blues
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
English rock band that used to be goth/post-punk but somehow toured with Bush and Stone Temple Pilots last year will be back in North America and return to their usual Dallas stomping grounds at House of Blues.

Pile
Friday, May 10, at Three Links
On sale now.
Rick Maguire has made a strong name for himself in the Boston music scene, and since 2007, has focused most of his creative energy into his band Pile. The outfit has released six albums, four of which were put out by Exploding in Sound (whose alumni includes Porches and Speedy Ortiz). Having just played Denton last fall, they return to Three Links this summer along with Chicago punks C.H.E.W.

Lil Pump & Lil Skies
Thursday, May 16, at South Side Ballroom
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
Esketit!

Higher Brothers
Friday, May 17, at Canton Hall
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
Ever notice there’s been an influx of Eastern pop artists in the American mainstream? It’s not just South Korea, either – Higher Brothers are a Chinese trap four-piece who just released their second full-length Five Stars. The album features collaborations with Ski Mask the Slump God, J.I.D, Rich Brian, Denzel Curry and Soulja Boy.

Lucero
Friday, May 17 – Saturday, May 18, at Dada
On sale now.
Elm Street Tattoo Fest is organizing a two-night stand at Dada featuring Memphis alt-country/punk outfit Lucero, who will perform their self-titled debut album on Friday, and Tennessee on Saturday.

Knuckle Puck & Citizen
Saturday, May 25, at Trees
On sale now.
HUNNY and Oso Oso open this co-headline bill of pop-punk bands who have been through Dallas hundreds of times in the past year.

Korn & Alice in Chains
Sunday, July 21, at Dos Equis Pavilion
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
Former Ozzfest favorites and the best band to slam a Monster Energy to Korn have announced a co-headline tour with Alice in Chains 2.0. Underoath and Ho99o9 open.

PRETTYMUCH
Thursday, July 11, at Toyota Music Factory
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
Simon Cowell pretty much (heh) took on the form of Lou Pearlman and formed this American-Canadian boy band.

Slightly Stoopid
Friday, July 26, at The Bomb Factory
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
We already made a joke about Sublime three weeks ago. To make a joke about Slightly Stoopid would count as double jeopardy.

moe. & Blues Traveler
Saturday, August 10, at Toyota Music Factory
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
If Grateful Dead formed in the ‘90s and never dropped acid, they would probably be compatible with this lineup.

Mana
Saturday, September 7, at American Airlines Center
On sale Friday, March 1, at 11 a.m.
Mana are a Mexican rock band that has been active since 1986. Since their formation, they have won four Grammys and 19 Billboard Latin Music Awards. Over the years, they have earned their status as one of the most successful Latin American bands yet — because why else would they be playing a 20,000-cap venue?!

Stereolab
Saturday, September 21, at Granada Theater
On sale now.
Stereolab’s last DFW play was in 2006 at what is now known as The Theatre at Grand Prairie. Following last week’s unexpected reunion announcement, it appears that they will pay us an overdue visit in a much more intimate setting. On that note, check out Stereolab vocalist Laetitia Sadier’s cover of Bobbie Gentry’s “Mornin’ Glory” that she did for Mercury Rev’s Bobbie Gentry’s The Delta Sweete Revisited.

Peter Frampton
Sunday, September 22, at Toyota Music Factory
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
By way of tragic announcements, the CBS News reported that Peter Frampton was diagnosed with a degenerative muscle disease that causes his muscles to gradually weaken over time. Long story short, his voice will not be affected, but moving around will be a challenge, and so the English rock legend will sadly bid us farewell on this tour. Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Evening opens.

Herb Alpert and Lani Hall
Saturday, October 12, at Majestic Theatre
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
The jazz trumpeter behind the wonderful 1965 album Whipped Cream & Other Delights is 83-years-old, which means an opportunity to go to this show should not be taken lightly. Joining him is wife, famed vocalist Lani Hall.

Big Thief
Tuesday, November 5, at Trees
On sale Friday, March 1, at 10 a.m.
A few months following Buck Meek’s tour with Jeff Tweedy, his band Big Thief will hit the road this fall in support of their upcoming album U.F.O.F., which they will be releasing via 4AD. They premiered the title track to accompany the album and tour announcement.

Nile & Terrorizer
Friday, December 6, at Trees
On sale now.
Death metal legends Nile and influential grindcore outfit Terrorizer will embark on a winter tour far later this year. The former appears to have an upcoming album in the works, and the latter will tour in support of 2018’s Caustic Attack.
