Cardo Starts 2018 Off With A Bang, Tay-K Goes Platinum, The Old 97’s Announce Their 2018 County Fair Bill And Parade Of Flesh Reveals Some #NSFWknd Performers.

The biggest music news in the country over the last few days is arguably Drake’s weekend release of his Scary Hours EP, which features just two songs.

So why mention it here? Well, because North Texas-based producer Cardo Got Wings is credited on the song “God’s Plan” alongside Boi-1da and Yex. And, turns out, that isn’t even the only big news involving Cardo this week. Yesterday, Migos unveiled that he’s one of the producers for its new album Culture II. If that weren’t enough, Cardo also recently announced plans to release a collaboration project with Detroit rapper Payroll Giovanni called Big Bossin Vol. 2 on Friday, January 26.

Yeah, it’s a pretty safe bet that Cardo will see a platinum plaque sent his way at some point in 2018. If so, he’ll have something in common with incarcerated Arlington-based rapper Tay-K, whose viral hit “The Race” has now officially been certified platinum, the R.I.A.A. announced last week. Tay-K’s “The Race” blew up over the summer when it was released while the Arlington rapper was on the run from U.S. Marshals. Since being apprehended in New Jersey, the rapper born Taymor McIntyre has been in jail, awaiting trial for murder and aggravated robbery charges.

But while Tay-K and many of his peers blowing up these days owe the internet for their success, there’s still something special about traditional mediums like film and television.

Sarah Jaffe gets that, having lent her vocal talents to Pixar in the past. Now her music can be heard in the Dallas-based director Augustine Frizzell‘s Never Goin Back, which is premiering this week out at Sundance.

The Outfit, TX too understands this after having seen their “Big Splash” song aired during a strip club scene on FOX’s The Mick that you can watch below.

Last week, you may recall, it was announced The Outfit, TX will be official artists at this year’s SXSW. This week, we’ve learned that Fort Worth will be doing its best to make an impression in Austin that week, too. An event call “Fort Worth Now” will highlight the city’s innovations in technology, business, art, music and film, according to a report from Fort Worth Magazine . The two-day event will take place March 13 and 14, and feature music performances from Quaker City Night Hawks, Abraham Alexander and Grady Spencer & The Work, and interactive art by Rambo. Mayor Betsy Price will even kick off the event with a 15k bike ride.

Keeping with festival news, Parade of Flesh recently announced its #NSFWknd lineup for 2018. It features Princess Nokia, Basement, Porches, Dwarves, The Coathangers (of course) and lots more playing Deep Ellum venues from March 15 through 18. Head here for more info there.

Then there’s the Old 97’s County Fair, which announced its 2018 lineup this morning. Along with the namesake headliners, this year’s bill features Lord Huron, The Mavericks, Valerie June, Paul Cauthen, The Bottle Rockets and more. The third annual fair will go down on April 14 at Main Street Garden, and you can get tickets and more info right here.

Speaking of festival headliners, St. Vincent recently performed stripped down versions of her songs “New York,” “Los Ageless” and “Slow Disco” with just an acoustic guitar for NPR‘s Tiny Desk concert series. Watch the stirring and minimalist performance below:

If you’d rather hear her perform a Sleater-Kinney song instead of her own material, well, you can do that too, as the Dallas-raised artist born Annie Clark posted a clip of herself doing just that to her Instagram this morning.

Pre-show Sleater-Kinney warm up. Such a great song! @carrie_rachel

Original music more your thing? There’s plenty of that coming down the pike soon from area artists.

Pinkish Black, for instance, announced this week that it is currently in the studio recording its fourth album, titled Concept Unification, and preparing to release it later this year through Relapse Records. In the meantime, the duo also announced a round of upcoming shows, including a Dallas date on March 15 at Three Links.

Then there’s Black Milk. While the rapper and producer may not live in Dallas anymore, he’s definitely holding onto the ties he built here, as his new Fever LP, which is releasing February 23, features Dallas songstress Sudie on one of its tracks.

Meanwhile, Mind Spiders’ new album Furies isn’t set to officially come out until Friday, but you can currently stream it right now via Stereogum.

Still want more? You got it.

Arradon dropped a video for the hard-hitting “G-Shit” just the other day.

David Morgan released a new music video for his song “Yes” this week.

G.U.N.’s Blow EP dropped, too.

Then there’s Curtis Mayz, who premiered a new track titled “Bankroll” last week from his upcoming Fortune Lane EP.

Northern National, meanwhile, put out a new song called “Slow Down.”

Newcomer Sir Charles ENT also released a video for his “DesignHer” song.

Paradise Loft, on the other hand, teamed up with Yak The Mack for a new one called “Anonymous Call Pt. 1.”

And, finally, this week, you can chill with Guru-ma’s just-released “I.C.Y.” featuring -topic.
