Play Ball.
When Al Gore invented the internet, it was to make our lives easier and more convenient. And it’s totally working. This year, you can even order Girl Scout cookies on Amazon. Such convenience!
And for the past five years you’ve been able to quickly and easily plan your daily outings using our regular little things to do listicle. Much easiness! — Cory Graves
Texas Rangers Opening Day at Globe Life Park
It’s baseball time in Texas. Darvish gets the first call of the season against Dallas boy/Cy Young winner Corey Kluber and the rest of his Indians squad. Peanuts and Cracker Jacks for all. — CG
Shakespeare in the Bar: The Merry Wives of Windsor at The Wild Detectives
In recent years, troupes of drunken actors with clever names like ShakesBEER and Shotspeare have been staging informal productions of the bard’s work in watering holes all over the country. Sacrilige you say? Perhaps not so much. As this Wall Street Journal piece on the phenomenon points out, wine and ale were often consumed all day long in Shakespeare’s day, meaning the original staging of Romeo and Juliet was probably in front of a crowd of drunk folks, too. — CG
Dallas Startup Week™ Launch Party at Tower Club of Dallas
Dallas Startup Week™ kicks off with a bang at this party on one of the top floors of Thanksgiving Tower, aka the eighth tallest building in Dallas. Your shitty app might not be taking off, but drinks in front of some of the best views of Downtown should dull the pain. — CG
2001: A Space Odyssey Anniversary Screening at Alamo Drafthouse (Cedars)
There are just certain movies that every well-rounded human being should see. Stanley Kubrick’s masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey is one of those films. It’s a seminal piece of cinematography, a real game-changer in nearly every facet. And like many a Kubrick flick, it’s got a killer soundtrack, to boot. Also, at this restored, anniversary screening, you’ll get a free commemorative T-shirt. — CG
Strand of Oaks at Three Links
On name alone, Strand of Oaks sounds like it’d be a bad Bon Iver ripoff, but not so: This band bears sonic kinship with your classic bar-rock outfits. Actually, Denton’s own Slobberbone’s not a bad comparison, just subtract some of the alt-country flavor for more of an MOTR flavor. Probably the closest to hearing “Born to Run” live that you’ll come across all weekend long. Mount Moriah and Jason Anderson open. — Pete Freedman
NCAA Basketball Championship Watch Party at Granada Theater
Gonzaga vs North Carolina on the big screen. This one’s for all the marbles — and office bracket pool bragging rights. — CG
