Beats and Eats at Granada Theater
Starting this month, the Granada Theater kicks off its new food and music-pairing Beats and Eats series. Each month will find a different local chef preparing a four-course meal, served while a local musician performs. This first one features chef Graham Dodds (Wayward Sons) and the music of Charley Crockett.
Heather McDonald at Hyena’s Dallas (Free)

Based on six years’ worth of his weekly columns for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Richard J. Gonzales’ recent Raza Rising book explores the cultural journey of the author, as well as many other Chicanos living in North Texas. He’ll be in Oak Cliff reading from the book tonight.

Squirrel Nut Zippers at Kessler Theatre (Sold Out)
After a lengthy hiatus, Squirrel Nut Zippers has “reunited” and is back on the road supporting the 20th anniversary edition of its Hot album. The reason for the quotes being that co-founding vocal/guitarist Tom Maxwell won’t be there, nor will several key members from back in the day. On his blog, Maxwell wrote; “The band that might come through your town next year celebrating this milestone for the Hot album will call themselves the Squirrel Nut Zippers. They might also call it a reunion, if shame has abandoned them. You should go see them, if you like. There will be a lot of musical talent on that stage, as well as a fair amount of hokum. It just won’t bear much resemblance to that brief and dazzling spark that once characterized the group.”

Chelsea Lately regular and frequent voice actor on Bob’s Burgers, podcaster and comic Braunohler will be doing stand-up at Sons this eve. Opening is best-selling local comedian Aaron Aryanpur.
Tegan and Sara at Majestic Theatre
Yesterday was the 12th anniversary of So Jealous, the LP that put twin sister indie duo Tegan and Sara on the map. Since then, they’ve made a decidedly dance pop turn with their recent Love You to Death LP. While the album’s gotten decent reviews, the same can’t necessarily be said of its live shows. So you might prefer to catch them performing a free set at Good Records tonight rather than pay to see them later on at Majestic.

Nowhere else in Deep Ellum can you see this many local acts performing together on the same outdoor stage. Nowhere. Not today, anyway.
Stumptone, Mtn Air, Felt and Fur at Texas Theatre
In its long time together, Stumptone’s members have been involved in some pretty spectacular projects, from MK ULTRA to Mind Spiders, Baptist Generals and Wire Nest. A little less punk-y than any of those, the band’s latest album features four years’ worth of sonic lushness layered atop a foundation of acoustic guitar. This sucker’s dense. Catch it behind the screen of a movie theater.
Reimagine Crowdus
The month-long experiment to decide the fate of that little stretch of Crowdus between Elm and Main Streets continues, as the pop-up park hosts workout sessions from Shark Tank vets City Surf Fitness as well as improv via Dallas Comedy House and a screening of Dazed and Confused courtesy of Alamo Drafthouse.
