This Week, Jell-O Gets Fried, Kitchen LTO Gets A New Home And Grapevine Craft Brewery Closes — Not!
Welcome to The Spread, our weekly feature that aims to share all the area restaurant, food and beverage industry news that’s fit to print. Except, this is the Internet, so space isn’t a concern. Also: Good thing, because this is Dallas and this town always has breaking restaurant news going down like whoa.
When Kitchen LTO recently closed somewhat unexpectedly and only part of the way through chef Nick Amoriello‘s six-month run as a comfort food concept, we knew it was only a matter of time before the permanent pop-up, well, popped up in another part of town.
True to its name, LTO’s hiatus was indeed for a limited time only.
Per the Dallas Observer, the former Trinity Groves hotspot is moving to Deep Ellum. The rotating restaurant venture now aims to resurface in the growing foodie neighborhood using a crowd-funding campaign to help supplement the cost. The new space will be smaller than its Trinity Groves predecessor, but will feature the same concept.
Speaking of new outposts: Super Chix is coming to Richardson. This newest location will join a host of other restaurants at the CityLine development, making it the second DFW location for the brand, joining the existing location in Arlington. An opening is slated for later this month.
Meanwhile, fried Jell-O is one of the oddities that will be featured at this year’s State Fair of Texas. The Big Tex Choice Awards winner is made with cherry flavored Jell-O battered in panko, then fried and served with whipped cream.
Finally, in craft beer news: After a brief scare thanks to Spec’s Twitter account, it turns out that Grapevine Craft Brewery will not be closing its doors after all. But it is changing its business model. Moving forward, the brewery’s beers will only be available at its onsite taproom and beer garden. Per a press release, the brewery has ceased distribution of its beers in order to prevent further financial losses for the time being. The taproom is open daily for those who wish to get their hands on the signature brews.
Also, out in Fort Worth today, Flying Saucer is hosting an 817 day. The all-day event features tappings of local breweries such as Rahr & Sons, Collective Brewing Project and Martin House Brewing.
