Gexa Energy Pavilion Gets A Facelift, And Parquet Courts Gets Remixed.

While Denton music venues have been shuttering left and right of late, Dallas, on the other hand, has been throwing piles of cash at its own venue spaces — y’know, when it’s not busy shutting down events due to code violations.

We digress.

Per the Dallas Morning News, Gexa Energy Pavilion is set to begin an $8 million facelift as early as this fall. Live Nation, which leases the venue from the city, plans on adding a “super-VIP” area, some shrubbery and air conditioners in the bathrooms among other improvements. Super!

Also pretty super is the news that Hand Drawn Records has begun recording its second (annual?) Analog Sessions compilation. Yet-to-be-announced artists are currently performing live in studio at Dallas’ Modern Electric Sound Recorders and Denton’s Big Acre Sound, and those recordings are going straight from reel-to-reel tape to vinyl — hence the name. More details on that to come…

Speaking of Analog Sessions, volume 1 contributor Andrew Tinker will see the song he wrote and that The Lumineers recorded for the Pete’s Dragon earn its release Friday, along with the rest of that soundtrack. That also means we’ll get a whole bunch of Daniel Hart works there, too, as he scored the film. Check out a video of some of that process below.

Another upcoming release finds Parquet Courts re-imagining songs off its 2016 Human Performance LP in the form of a Performing Human 12-inch. The disc will include an alternate studio version of the title track, as well as remixes by Eaters and Chris P of Future Punx. It’s out August 19, but you can go ahead and check out the Eaters mix below.

Parquet Courts’ fellow ex-pat Denton punks Bad Sports also have a 12-inch out in the coming weeks. Originally conceived as three separate singles, this seven-track release finds the band at its darkest and weirdest, says its Dirtnap label — and catchier than ever, too. Go ahead and be the judge of that yourself, as the song “Done to Death” is streaming below. The rest of the Living With Secrets record comes out August 12.

On the other hand, Fort Worth rapper Twaine Hall‘s latest record, aka the LOST EP, is already out. In fact, a new video for the “Me & You” single featuring Brandon Marcel debuted on HipHopDX earlier today. And now it’s here.

Next up, a couple of videos that both happen to feature reversed footage of someone smoking. Fort Worth don’t-woppers War Party‘s newest clip was filmed mostly live at Shipping and Receiving. Meanwhile, fellow Fort Worthian Nick Pratt dropped the very UGK-like Manifest Destiny LP, from whence his latest video comes.

Finally, Ishi will release a new EP called Juno on September 16. Then they’ll celebrate that fact the next night at Trees with support from Houston’s The Wrestlers.
