Eastfield College Expands Its Brewing Program, And Trompo Is The Best.

Welcome to The Spread, our weekly feature that aims to share all the area restaurant, food and beverage industry news that’s fit to print. Except, this is the Internet, so space isn’t a concern. Also: Good thing, because this is Dallas and this town always has breaking restaurant news going down like whoa.

Like things that are the best? Good! Because the up-and-coming taco joint Trompo has joined the ranks of the 50 best new restaurants in America. The Trinity Groves venture is featured along with three other Texas restaurants in Bon Appetit‘s 2016 listing. The names of the top 10 new restaurants will be revealed on August 16.

Meanwhile, the semifinalists of the State Fair of Texas‘s Big Tex Choice Awards have been announced. This year’s assortment of fried food oddities includes possibilities such as deep fried pulled pork “Funyun” dings and something called “Texas Fried Pinatacolupa,” per Eater Dallas. The official listing of gut-busting dishes will be determined during the Big Tex Choice Awards on August 28.

In opening news: The Design District is now home to a boozy pizza concept. Pie Tap Pizza Workshop features a selection of pizzas, pastas, wines and beers that are available for delivery, as well as a cocktail menu for those dining in.

Also in pizza news, a location of Fireside Pies is coming to Downtown. SideDish confirmed that the newest outpost is taking shape on Commerce Street, near the new Hampton Inn. No word yet on an opening date.

On the sweeter side of things, Milk n’ Cream is gearing up for its Dallas opening. The sweet bun purveyor initially planned to debut its Lower Greenville shop on August 6, according to GuideLive , but the opening was postponed due to issues with the ice cream counter. Look out for an update on the official opening in the coming days.

Finally, in craft beer news: Eastfield College is expanding its craft brewing program. The Journeyman Brewer certificate class has doubled its capacity after a large show of interest. Registration has already begun for the fall term of the six-week course.

Out in Fort Worth, Rahr & Sons is transitioning it’s Ugly Pug brew from bottles to cans. The move is scheduled to take place in September, with a special tour and tasting to promote the event on Wednesday, September 21.

And on Saturday, August 6, the fourth Local Brews Local Grooves takes place at the House of Blues. The day features a lineup of more than a dozen local breweries and live musicians. Doors open at 4 p.m.
