Local Hub Makes Ice Cream With Bicycles, And Monkey King Finds Money In The Banana Stand.

Welcome to The Spread, our weekly feature that aims to share all the area restaurant, food and beverage industry news that’s fit to print. Except, this is the Internet, so space isn’t a concern. Also: Good thing, because this is Dallas and this town always has breaking restaurant news going down like whoa.

This week starts off with some updates on the recent NYC invasion of the Dallas food scene, as Shake Shack and The Halal Guys make their Metroplex debuts next month.

As GuideLive reports, an opening date for the famed burger joint is slated for September, with a second location set to hit the Legacy West development in Plano in 2017.

Meanwhile, for The Halal Guys’ Oak Lawn debut next month, the restaurant is partnering with Caviar for a trial run of deliveries prior to its grand opening. Per Eater Dallas, there is currently no set date for the deliveries, although an opening of the restaurant is expected on July 23 — so, y’know, sometime before that.

Moving forward, the long-awaited new outpost of Deep Ellum’s Monkey King Noodle Co. is set to open early next month. The new Main Street location — just a stone’s throw from the original — will feature an expanded dining area and menu options, including a beer and wine selection, while the original location will continue serve as the dessert portion of the brand, under the moniker Monkey King Banana Stand. We hear there’s always money in there.

Also in that neighborhood, the new-ish bike shop Local Hub has added an ice cream-making bike to its offerings. The ice cream is made using an old-fashioned hand crank machine that is rigged to churn as the rider pedals. The bike will be a feature of Local Hub’s weekend social ride this Saturday, July 2 at 9:30 a.m.

On the legal side of things, a Dallasite is suing a Richardson bar for $1 million. The plaintiff in the suit is claiming damages because he was served alcohol for more than eight hours at W.W. Fairfield’s, then crashed his vehicle after driving home drunk back in December.

Speaking of watering holes, an Irish pub called Crafty Irishman Public House is set to hit Downtown. In addition to classic pub fare and a selection of scotch, whiskey and beers, the concept will double as a coffee shop/convenience store by day. An opening is slated for fall 2016.

Finally, in craft beer news: Noble Rey Brewing Co. is hosting its second annual Red White & Brew this Saturday, July 2, in which the taproom is partnering with The Proper Baking Co. in celebration of Independence Day. The event takes place from noon to 7 p.m.

Also on Saturday, Texas Ale Project is hosting a ‘Merica the Beer-tiful Party from 1 to 9 p.m. Pit Commander BBQ will be on hand as the brewers build a watermelon tap with their Brass Monkey, Ginger Island and Orange You Hoppy brews.

And Grapevine Craft Brewery is hosting Ales and Tails on Saturday, and event on July 2. The event supports the North Texas Food Pet Food Pantry with $10 pet washes by Pin Ups for Pitbulls, Inc.
