This Week, Erykah Badu Went On & On.

Each week, we take a survey of the local music scene and try to determine which acts in town are really putting in work and seeing it pay off. Which bands have the most intriguing shows coming up? Which bands are getting the most press around town? Which bands have accomplished the most notable feats of late? Based off these criteria, our music writers submit a list to be weighted and compiled into a master list revealed each week in this here space. We like to think it's fairly revealing. Check out our previous Buzz Rankings here.

For the second week in a row, and the 18th time overall, Erykah Badu takes the No. 1 spot in our weekly, local music power rankings. It's a number that stands second all-time only to Leon Bridges' mind-boggling 21. But at least she's still got that “Queen of Neo-Soul” title to hold over him.

Aside from the national magazine covers that helped her land last week's top spot, Ms. Badu also posted a touching Prince tribute that went viral. Going viral is something that comes naturally for her. Video of Dave Chappelle covering Radiohead at her birthday party spread similarly like wildfire this week.

Speaking of ol' Leon, he was also in magazines this week, getting the GQ treatment. And, also like Erykah, Neon Indian penned a Prince tribute as well.

On the televisions this week was Kaela Sinclair performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live as a member of M83, and Aaron Hendra popped up repeatedly as a real house husband on Real Housewives of Dallas.

This week in new releases: Post Malone released a hot new single; War Party and friends released a Prince cover;and Nervous Curtains and EATQS released cool new albums.

Elsewhere: The Unlikely Candidates open this weekend's Edgefest; Rhett Miller joined Green Day; and Parquet Courts headlines the Granada tonight.
