Love Field Is Going To Force You To Listen To Live Music At The Airport.
Earlier this week, a particular headline in The Onion caught our eye. (In case St. Vincent is reading this right now, we should point out that The Onion is a fake news site.) Satirical though they may be, the staff over there sometimes hits especially poignant strokes with headlines — like with its “Entire Shopping Mall Quietly Dreading Whatever Empty Stage Set Up For” offering from earlier this week.
Indeed, this current age is one that demands we be entertained at every possible turn, and increasingly this void is being filled with free live music — at the mall, at the coffee shop, on street corners. And, now, thanks to the geniuses at Love Field, at the motherfucking airport.
Heaven forbid you just want to quietly read a book on your layover or eat your Cinnabon in peace because, starting this week, Love Field’s going to be shoving free live music by Texas musicians down your throat every weekday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“With millions of people passing by this stage in the years to come, we have created a new platform for live performances by talented artists, fully equipped with state-of-the-art sound, lights and video,” says Michael Clay, principal and owner of Michael Clay Productions, who developed the concept of the Love Field Stage.
Located in the lobby of the airport’s main terminal, just inside the secure area near the food court, the new stage and its 9-foot-by-16-foot LED backdrop debuted this Monday with an inaugural performance from Dallas singer-songwriter Jon Christopher Davis.
“The LED wall was the game changer,” Clay says. “It transformed a cool stage design into an amazing tool that can be used for advertising, music videos, interactive communications and a variety of other purposes, including real-time audience analytic studies.”
In plainer English, the addition of the stage will serve the dual purpose of making your life even less peaceful while also giving you one more reason to dread going to the airport.
