Dallas' Top Comics Team Up For Hilarious New Video Skewering Group Texts.
Is the Dallas comedy scene on the come-up? Jeez, I dunno. But the local comedy scene does seem to be kicking a lot of tail lately, even if a lot of the cool things happening within it are pretty under-reported (sorry).
Case in point: Dallas comics Grant Redmond and Cody Tidmore have teamed up for a Youtube sketch channel rather straightforwardly called Grant & Cody that, although it's only got two videos to its name, has already racked up about a quarter of a million views at the time of this writing. Granted, the bulk of those views have been earned by a year-old, fairly absurd send-up of Easter egg hunts that's timely once more because that's how the calendar works. But the newer of the two clips — posted just this week — is where the real gold can be found.
The clip, directed by Lan Freedman (no relation), finds Redmond and Tilmore enlisting a whole cast of their fellow local comedians — Lauren Davis, Lindsay Goldapp, Jerrell Curry, Christian Hughes, Todd Upchurch, Tyler Simpson, Amanda Hahn, Sarah Adams, Ravi Kiran, Andrew Woods, J.R. Hackett, Ashley Bright, Julie Schneider and Jessica Dorrell — for a very funny, frighteningly relatable riff on the horrors of group texts. For good measure, it's also probably worth noting that a good chunk of the video was filmed at the Dallas gem that is the Texas Theatre.

Pretty awesome, right? Well, it's fortuitous that you should think so: Pretty much everyone in the above clip will be performing at the 7th Annual Dallas Comedy Festival hosted by the Dallas Comedy House in Deep Ellum, which kicks off on Tuesday, March 22, and runs through Saturday, March 26. All-access passes are already sold-out to the affair, but you can look into single-event ticket availability if you feel so inclined — and you should! — right here.
Seriously: Something pretty special is going down in the Dallas comedy scene right now, everyone. It's probably time we all started paying attention.
