Valentine’s Day sucks. The pressure is immense, any and all expectations will probably go unmet, and the worst part is that you’re overpaying for the privilege of probably starting a fight with your Special Someone.
This year is going to be different. This year, we have Galentine's Day. Familiar to those of you that enjoy Parks and Recreation, this holiday blows Valentine’s Day out of the water. Instead of a forced celebration of your love, you take a day to celebrate those that will really always be there for you — your best girl friends.
Stop No. 1: Deep Ellum Mimosa Walk (2650-B Main Street). I don't know if this event's organizers are aware of the wonders of Galentine’s Day, but for this to be on the same date is pure fate. Drinking mimosas and wandering through random shops in Deep Ellum is the perfect way to start your gal pal parade. My best female friends and I are frequent fliers of the regular monthly wine walk, but this one has us even more excited — because duh, mimosas. Just pick up your glass for $10 in front of Kettle Art and set off. Use that money you'd otherwise be spending on dumb boys and get some vintage clothes from Lula B's or memberships at the Dallas School of Burlesque. Nothing says BFF like someone who will take Naughty Pilates with you.
Stop No. 2: Wild About Harry's (111 South Hall Street). Now that you and your crew are probably riding high on a wave of friendship and cheap champagne, let’s continue the self-indulgence day with dessert. Remember: It doesn't matter what you look like in the V-Day lingerie — because this weekend is all about Galentine’s Day — and get down with some of Wild About Harry's rich and creamy custard with plenty of toppings. Don't think about the calories, just remind your friends that you are all kickass women who deserve to treat yo self. Their food isn’t anything to complain about either in case that lightweight of the group needs to sober up a bit.
Stop No. 3: Pink Toes Nail Bar (111 South Field Street). You've wined yourself, dined yourself, and now there's just one thing left for your group to do: Head on over to one of the best nail salons in the area for some group mani-pedi time. Pink Toes is awesome, the people are friendly, the chairs are supremely comfy, and you'll walk out looking even more like a million bucks than you did when you went in. This spot's become known for its ombre pink-and-white sets but they can take on almost any wild request your group can come up with. Pro tip: Book this stop ASAP; the secret is out on Pink Toes and they can get pretty busy.
