Check Out Bobby Sessions and Buffalo Black's Respective Songs About Peyton Manning, Cam Newton.
On Sunday, Super Bowl 50 will pit the Carolina Panthers against the Denver Broncos in a match-up of two of the NFL's most compelling quarterbacks not named Tom Brady.
In one corner, you've got the Broncos' Peyton Manning, one the league's all-time greats, trying to make the most out of what appears to be his last chance at ultimate glory. In the other, there's the Panthers' charismatic and laughably controversial Cam Newton, arguably the best quarterback in the league at the moment, seeking his due coronation as the league's new face.
For any number of reasons, the game should make for an entertaining watch. But here's a fun storyline worth noting that we're confident no one else is paying any mind: In the past couple of weeks, through what appears to be pure coincidence, up-and-coming Dallas rappers Bobby Sessions and Buffalo Black have each individually released respective songs named after Super Bowl 50's starting quarterbacks.
In light of this happy accident, we reached out to both performers for some background on why they named their songs for these football players, and for their predictions on which team will win the big game.
Scroll on to hear each song and to see the answers we got.
Why Bobby Sessions named the song after Peyton Manning: “The whole song is about wordplay. Some Texas natives refer to feeling inebriated as 'throwed,' and a double cup is commonly used for drinking, and Peyton Manning is one of the greatest ever to throw a football. I named the cups 'Peyton' and 'Manning,' to represent me getting as throwed as the great quarterback. It's just a play on words.”
Bobby Sessions' Super Bowl prediction: “I'll say Broncos 38, Panthers 35. This will happen because I'm [working at] attracting [energy with] my 'Peyton Manning' video going viral and I know Peyton winning is necessary for that to happen. I'm a huge fan of Cam Newton, though.”
Why Buffalo Black -named the song after Cam Newton: “For one, some people in my circle thought I looked like him in some instances — my friends, anyway. And I think he's super relevant and figured it would boost some listens. I also think he's a force at what he does, and that's what I'd like to embrace for myself.”
Buffalo Black's Super Bowl prediction: “Man, I got the Panthers. I'm a Peyton Manning fan, for sure, [which is weird] since I called the song, 'Cam Newton.' I didn't think that far ahead! I got the Panthers 35 to the Broncos 24, though. I think they have too many weapons on defense and offense.”
