On Grantland's Demise and Politics' Place In Sportswriting With Special Guest Bryan Curtis
If you're a listener of KTCK 1310-AM or 96.7-FM, you probably feel like you already know TC Fleming and Jake Kemp well. And if you're not a listener of The Ticket? Well, whatever. You're about to get real familiar with these two just the same through their own channel of this podcast called It's Just Banter. Wanna hear past episodes? For this very special It's Just Banter, Jake and I had the chance to sit down again with the only ex-Grantlander who takes our calls, Bryan Curtis.
Here, he talks about the ending of that adored site at length. We also had the chance to ask him some about our favorite articles that he wrote under that banner. We also focus on his observation that sportswriting, when it intersects with political and moral issues, is increasingly trending in a liberal direction.
Of late, Bryan has also done some writing for The New Yorker, focusing mainly on movies. We chat about that some, too, getting his takes on the most recent Jurassic Park and Star Wars installments.
Listen: Jake and I both greatly admire the work that this guy does, and it was very cool to chat with him as much as we did. I think you'll hear appreciation that come across nicely in this podcast.
Enjoy. — TC Fleming
