Lately, it seems as if everyone I meet is a recent Dallas transplant. These newbies are everywhere, y'all.
And whether you’re a Dallas expert or fresh to the city, it’s your goddamn duty as a resident to explore this incredible place — especially this weekend, too, considering the perfect weather we’re finally set to be having.
Stop #1: Dallas Arts District Scavenger Hunt (2301 Flora Street). Scavenger hunts are fun at any age, but scavenger hunts full of challenges and facts about the Arts District are even better. You start at the Meyerson Symphony Center at 10:30 a.m. and, within the span of two hours, you'll face 17 challenges and visit landmarks ranging from the Dallas Museum of Art to one of the oldest cathedrals in the area. You’ll score a truckload of cultural cache along the way and find plenty of perfect spots for taking a scenic Instagram photo with your date. (Bonus: Use the code VISITDALLAS for $10 off your hunt.)
Stop #2: Dallas Museum of Art (1717 North Harwood Street). After you've done your artsy scavenger hunt, why not pop inside the Dallas Museum of Art for another hour or so? It's free to get in, and you can access a bunch of exhibits on old North American art and contemporary design. For an extra $16 ticket, you can see the special exhibits too. Right now, that includes Jackson Pollock's “Blind Spots.”
Stop #3: Klyde Warren Park Food Trucks (2012 Woodall Rodgers Freeway). After so much purposeful wandering and appraising, you're bound to have worked up a healthy appetite — and Klyde Warren Park has you covered. Every weekend and most weekdays, there's an all-star lineup of food trucks right there, ready for you to take full advantage of. Personally, I’m obsessed with the excellent bahn mi at the Nammi truck. Follow that up with an ice cream sandwich at Coolhaus. Then grab a bench to eat at, and you’ve got the perfect sweet end to your adventure date — hopefully the first of many.
