This Week, Bobby Sessions Laid Down The Law.
Each week, we take a survey of the local music scene and try to determine which acts in town are really putting in work and seeing it pay off. Which bands have the most intriguing shows coming up? Which bands are getting the most press around town? Which bands have accomplished the most notable feats of late? Based off these criteria, our music writers submit a list to be weighted and compiled into a master list revealed each week in this here space. We like to think it's fairly revealing. For the second week in a row, and just the second time ever, Bobby Sessions finds himself atop our weekly, local music power rankings. As we and our media peers finished putting a bow on 2015 with each of our various year-end look-backs, Sessions found his songs and albums mentioned most everywhere. And, as D Magazine pointed out this week, his album is one that more national outlets should do themselves a favor and pick up on in 2016.
Meanwhile, all kinds of other locals did find themselves in the national spotlight. Leon Bridges earned some attention for pairing up with Gary Clark Jr. in Australia, announcing yet another late-night television performance and earning a spot on Forbes' list of the 30 under 30 for music. Here, though, all that was only good enough for No. 2. Others on that Forbes list included Demi Lovato, Pentatonix, Nick Jonas and Selena Gomez.
Post Malone, on the other hand, caught some unnecessary flack for an old, actually funny clip that the Internet unearthed. Everyone is so cruel online!

Then there was the Texas Gentlemen, which kicked off a new weekly Wednesday night residency at Lola's this week. Similarly, Dezi 5 began a new weekly jam over at RBC. And speaking of RBC: Orgullo Primitivo's Stefan Gonzalez and Blue, the Misfit moved their Outward Bound Mixtape Sessions and War Club Wednesdays weeklies there this week from their old homes at Crown and Harp.
Elsewhere: Oh, Sleeper headlines a show at the Rail Club this weekend; Dark Rooms headlines Trees; Sudie headlines Double Wide; Pat Green headlines Billy Bob's; and Party Static already did headline Three Links.
