Baroness Brought The Noise To The Double Wide On Saturday.

There's a lot to like about Georgia-based sludge metal band Baroness, from its ever-compelling album cover art to its downed in sound live shows. But Dallas fans of the band have historically had more reason to applaud the group's efforts: In addition to touring alongside its onetime Relapse Records labelmates in the Dallas stonegaze trio True Widow in recent years, the group has also enlisted Oak Cliff production ace John Congleton to helm the recording of its Blue and Yellow & Green album efforts.

Neither of those truths will stand moving forward, unfortunately. For the forthcoming Purple (due December 18), Baroness' fourth full-length since 2007, the band handed production duties over to Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, countless others) and decided to self-release the album through its newly formed Abraxan Hymns label.

Still, just this past weekend, as part of a national underplay tour of too-small venues before Purple's arrival, the band made sure to give its Dallas fans a treat just the same by taking over the venue at The Double Wide. And a treat it was: A fast sell-out, the show was a predictably loud affair, with the band encouraging singalongs from the audience even on the newer material it sprinkled into its set.

Intimate is one way to describe the show. Considerably dark is another — both in terms of its audio and visual elements, the latter of which you can check out for yourself below.
