After Stops At Fallon and Buzzfeed, Erykah Badu's Mixtape Is Ready, And You Can Hear It Friday.
For the past, oh, two months or so, and ever since the surprise release of her “Hotline Bling” cover, Dallas' own Erykah Badu has been at the forefront of the national music news landscape (followed closely, it should be noted, only by fellow locals), thanks to the reveal that she'll be dropping a new mixtape this week and thanks furthermore to her creative promotions surrounding that release.
And, this past weekend, Badu continued to earn herself and her new song collection some shine by going the more traditional promotional route and heading up to New York City for a few days for a slew of interviews and performances that are now starting to find their way online.
On Friday night, for instance, she stopped by The Tonight Show to sit in with her old pals in The Roots and perform at various points throughout the show. You can see those performances in the below embed of Friday night's episode by skipping around to the 5:50, 15:00, 20:30, 28:00, 33:50 and 40:20 marks.
Also while up NYC way, Badu stopped by Buzzfeed's New York offices to perform for her many fans there alongside her longtime collaborator, jazz wiz Robert Glasper, with whom she performed on camera her one-woman show's standout song, “Ode To The Office”.

All that's pretty cool. But, for our readers at least, this news is cooler: With her mixtape now 100 percent confirmed to now drop at some point this week, Badu is celebrating its release with a little Friday night bash here in her hometown.
On that night, from 9 o'clock until midnight at the Lab Art Gallery in the Design District, Badu and her crew will host a 21-and-up listening party for the You Cain't Use My Phone tape. The event will also feature live art from Badu producer Rob Free, multimedia artist Jeremy Biggers and the Sour Grapes crew, plus a DJ set from Cannabinoid member Picnictyme.
No word yet on the cost of admission into the party or how one can go about RSVPing their way in. We'll update you with that info as we get it. For now, we'll just recommend getting there as early as possible and with some cash in hand.
Update at 1:25 p.m.: Badu has now confirmed to us that she'll be in attendance and that entry is free. Well, then. All the more reason to show up early, we say.
