Stay Safe, Everyone: According To Police, There Were 483 Reported Car Accidents in Dallas Yesterday.
Hey, remember when Dallas got hit with three inches of snow back in February and, as a result, the roads were total madhouses? What a shitty time that was!
Well, turns out yesterday's rainfall — 3.55 inches in total per DFWweather.org — ended up creating just as much of a hassle. Per Melinda Gutierrez, media relations officer for the Dallas Police Department, there were a total of 483 automobile accidents in Dallas proper on Friday alone. Here's the statistical breakdown of those incidents:
• Minor accidents: 215.
• Major accidents: 113.
• Major freeway accidents: 147.
• Minor accidents involving city equipment: 7.
• Major accidents involving city equipment: 1.
• Total accidents: 483.
I guess Dallasites aren't necessarily just bad drivers in snow, but in all inclement weather conditions? Yeah, sounds about right.
Anyway, it's important to remember that these are just the reported accidents from the day and that these numbers also solely represent the number of accidents that took place in Dallas proper.
The lesson here, as always, is to please be safe out there, folks. Or in the words of the National Weather Service: Turn around, don't drown.
