NBC To Develop A TV Series Loosely Based On Wendy Davis' Life.

Wendy Davis, sadly, never got a multi-million-dollar LeBron James-style shoe deal. But such an endorsement for the onetime Texas state senator and former gubernatorial candidate probably would've been merited from Mizuno — even if women's rights was a subject that brand would prefer not to touch — considering the Fort Worth policitian rocked tennis shoes from that athletic brand during her iconic filibustering of anti-abortion legislation on the floor of the Texas Senate on June 25, 2013.

Oh well. I guess she'll just have to settle for an entire television show from a major television network being loosely based on her life. Late last wek, Deadline reported that NBC is currently developing a dramedy series on Davis' life, focusing on the period after the democrat lost the governor's race to Greg Abbott. The show will follow a Davis-based lead as she starts working for her best friend — a black Republican dude — at his law firm, where she'll finally exist without political aspirations, fully ready to “unshackle her inner badass.”

Jennifer Cecil is executive producing the project along with the real Davis. The Houston-born Cecil was once an executive producer of Private Practice. She also produced and wrote For One Tree Hill and has a freight train's worth of experience.

And, hey, this idea could maybe work! Prime-time telenovelas are super hot right now: Scandal and Empire are so terrible they're good and Jane the Virgin is low-key one of the most exciting shows on television. Also, this one is reportedly being made “in the vein of The Good Wife,” another such entity.

So maybe it's got legs to stand on and could maybe eventually turn into something.
