Dallas Filmmaker David Lowery's Ain't Them Bodies Saints Hits Netflix On October 18.

Lest you've forgotten, 2013 was a banner year for the Dallas filmmaker David Lowery as the well-received premiere of his Ain't Them Bodies Saints feature film at that year's Sundance Film Festival set off an avalanche of news regarding his career's bright future.

First up? A distribution deal for that independent production. Next? Disney scooped him up to helm its Pete's Dragon remake — an undertaking he's been blogging about since. Oh, and also? He linked up with Robert Redford, who asked him to direct his next big project, too.

So, yeah, Ain't Them Bodies Saints is kind of a big deal. But, uh, have you seen the film that's been called “the next Beasts of the Southern Wild and “a wholly engrossing and impressive piece of work that the movie world will be talking about all year long,” and earned Lowery comparisons to Terrence Malick. If you haven't, you'll soon be able to rectify that easily enough. On October 18, Ain't Them Bodies Saints — which was scored by Dallas musician Daniel Hart (Dark Rooms, Other Lives), by the way! — will become available for watching via instant streaming on Netflix on October 18.

Pretty fitting, too. I mean, it's only right that arguably the most important Dallas film since Primer follow a similar path and find a home in the same place where that Shane Carruth film has so thrived in recent years. I'd say so.

Anyway, what I'm really saying is that it's probably time to work up the courage for sending those “Ain't Them Bodies Saints and chill?” texts. Also, check out the Texas-set, Casey Affleck- and Rooney Mara-starring film's trailer below.
