Rock 'n' Roll.

So far this year, a dozen people have died while taking selfies. By comparison, only eight have been killed by sharks. By that twisted logic, one might reason that selfies are a far bigger danger than sharks.

In either case, if you want to live to see another day, you should probably avoid the ocean tonight and/or using your phone to snap pics of your bad self. Besides, phones are far more beneficial when being used to, I dunno, say, researching ways to spend the evening that won't end up killing you. Here's a couple we managed to dig up for you. — Cory Graves

Mugen Hoso at Double Wide
In a festival absolutely jam packed with exciting performances — Black Flag, The Riverboat Gamblers, Pinata Protest, Reverend Horton Heat, to name a few — Japanese duo Mugen Hoso's turn on Dada's back patio — was maybe the most balls-out performance of the weekend. Look for things to get pretty explosive at this one. The Dolly LLamas and Picnic, Lightning open. — CG

Oktoberfest Fort Worth at Panther Island Pavilion
There are lots of places you can go to celebrate Oktoberfest. But Fort Worth's Panther Island Pavilion is where you need to be. It's here where you'll find all the German beer, food and games that this debauchery-filled affair has to offer — and on the grounds of Cowtown's go-to festing spot, no less! No dress-up is required. Neither is immediacy: Oktoberfest runs on these grounds through the 26th. — Chase Whale

Miss Congeniality at Alamo Drafthouse
While the lovely Texan, Sandra Bullock, gives crime fighting a makeover in this 2000 flick, Miss Texas 2015, Shannon Sanderford and the Alamo staff will be giving the moviegoing experience a makeover, holding a little pageant of their own, where Sanderford and four of her competitors will crown one moviegoer Miss Alamo. — CG

Nashville at The Magnolia
A day after ABC's Nashville kicked off its fourth season, Robert Altman's star-studded 1970 epic of the same name returns to theaters. Set atop a music industry backdrop, Ned Beatty, Keith Carradine, Shelley Duvall, Jeff Goldblum, Lily Tomlin and about 20 other A-listers mix comedy, tragedy, drama and, above all, musical into this masterpiece. — CG

Yonatan Gat at Rubber Gloves
Since splitting from Monotonix, a band he co-founded, master guitarist Yonatan Gat has continued making an interesting brand of punk rock influenced by the Middle East, Africa, Brazil and New York. Take note: the guitarist's new outfit immediately took over his old band's mantle as the most exciting live band in rock 'n' roll. Pearl Earl, Fun Button (celebrating its EP release) and Abacaba open. — CG

Safe In Sound Festival at The Bomb Factory
Not just dubstep, an entire festival's worth of dubstep. — CG

Hand-Picked Farmers Market at The Mezzanine at Mockingbird Station
Yesterday marked the first day of fall and, as such, this will mark the final edition of Mockingbird Station's monthly summer markets. It's your last chance to pick up locally-grown produce, snacks and other goods — at The Mezzanine at Mockingbird Station, anyway. — CG

Destroyer at Trees
With a name like Destroyer, we wouldn't blame you for thinking this was likely a KISS cover band. But that's not the case. The Canadian rock outfit is the poetry-centric solo project from New Pornographer Dan Bejar. Jennifer Castle opens. — CG

Algiers at Three Links
The punk version of a black church choir, Atlanta three-piece Algiers' debut LP is every bit as political and socially scathing as you might expect. Listen to them scream the gospel in double time. It'll be a hell of a lot easier to sit through than the usual sermon. Bambara and The Angelus open. — CG

John Wayne Film Festival at LOOK Cinemas
For the next four days, members of The Duke's family will be in town raising money for the John Wayne Cancer Foundation with screenings of 10 of his best films. There are some things a man just can't run away from. — CG

Cardo at Rio Room
One of Dallas' most turnt up producers, Cardo (Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Young Jeezy, Dr. Dre) pops some bottles to celebrate another trip around the sun. If the previous two Thursday's parties are any indication, there will be lots of folks partying like it's their birthday at this one. — CG
