A New Study Finds Dallasites Spend More On Booze Than Anyone Else.

Look no further than Dallas' world-class skyline or the glitzy cars leased by its large population of $30,000 millionaires and you'll have a pretty deep understanding of the city as a whole.

Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason, we suppose.

Though we like to put on our share of airs, the Morning News reported last month that, in actuality, “Dallas has a greater percentage of people beneath poverty than other major Texas cities.”

Maybe we're reading too much into things here but, perhaps another study — this one courtesy of the Bureau of Labor Statistics — holds a key insight to why we're so broke. According to the BLS, Dallasites spend a higher percentage of their annual income on alcoholic beverages than the residents of any other city.

Per DC Inno's breakdown the findings: “While the average Boston household spent $619 on booze at stores in 2014, Washington, D.C.'s households spent $563, and Chicago's spent $513. In the Dallas area, that total was far higher at $744, representing 1 percent of the average local household's income.”

Sure, those things don't necessarily correlate, per se. And, maybe, things like the $14 drinks being slung in abundance at many an Uptown bar have a little to do with that figure. But, damn, that's still a lot!

That said, it shouldn't come as a total shocker, considering Dallas' tendency to routinely spend over $50 million a month on booze.
