Take It To The Streets.
There are few things in the world more enjoyable than being an orangutan taking a bath. Have you ever felt as divine as that hairy little guy looked in that clip?
We can't promise you'll feel that sublime by attending any of the following events, but you certainly won't achieve that feeling by staying indoors this evening. That is to say, it's worth a shot. — Cory Graves
Michael McDonald at House of Blues
Not into going out on Wednesday nights? That's what a fool believes. Besides, the king of blue-eyed soul himself, ex-Doobie Brother/Steely Dan backup singer Michael McDonald will be on hand for this show, which benefits Operation Finally Home. You better believe I mo be there. — CG
The Protomen at Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill
Since 2003, The Protomen have been creating concept albums based off of the Mega Man video games, something that's garnered them a loyal cult following among video game enthusiasts. It actually makes sense that bands would be inspired by the themes in video games, since they usually deal with struggle, redemption and trying over and over again. Y'know, human stuff. — Chelsea Upton
Billy Madison at Sundown (Free)
“That Veronica Vaughn is one piece of ace…” Billy Madison at Sundown tonight. Go! It's the best back-to-school movie of them all. — Diamond Victoria
Hovvdy, Bent Denim at The Lion's Den
We're nearing the end of summer and it's only gotten warmer. To further embrace those feelings, Austin by way of New Orleans “sad-pop” outfit Hovvdy is hitting the road. In celebration of a new split on Austin lo-fi label, Merdurhaus Records, the band's playing Denton's favorite basement hang, The Lion's Den. It's sure to be a sweaty mess with tourmates Bent Denim along with Denton's No Touching, which has a new EP of their own. So bring a donation or two. — Evan Henry
Kim Russo at Kessler Theater
Kim Russo claims to have been aware of spirits since she was a young girl. If you believe this, you can pay between 30 and 50 bucks to get a reading from her or watch her talk about ghosts. Report back and let us know if she also discusses UFOs, how the Earth is flat and whether or not jet fuel can melt steel beams. — H. Drew Blackburn.
Free Week at Rubber Gloves
Gloves' 12th annual week of free back-to-school shows rolls on with a diverse array of local acts, including Flesh Narc, Bad Feeler, Creepeth and Burning Moon. — CG
Uncork at Cure at Cork Wine Bar
Here it is: the most guilt free way for you to drink wine. You don't have to use the “Wine has antioxidants.” or “It's hump day!” excuses to drink on a Wednesday night. Unlike most cancer benefits that require miles of walking, all you've got to do is drink wine at this one. So, get a ticket and add some philanthropy to your week. — Lauren Kuehmeier
A Hard Day's Night at Alamo Drafthouse
Until Migos stars in multiple films, we won't believe that they're better than the Beatles. Too impervious to nerds turning rappers into memes. Check out one of the many films The Beatles released in its heyday tonight at the Alamo Drafthouse. — HDB
