Braindead Adds Brunch, And Singlewide Sells Pickles.

Welcome to The Spread, our weekly feature that aims to share all the area restaurant, food and beverage industry news that's fit to print. Except, this is the Internet, so space isn't a concern. Also: Good thing, because this is Dallas and this town always has breaking restaurant news going down like whoa.

Changes are afoot for Cafe Momentum, as executive sous chef Justin Box (Bolsa) announced his departure from the crew. We touched base with him for further details, to which he alluded to personal reasons, but that there was “no bad blood” behind the move. As for what's next for the Bangarang chef, Box says he plans to host more whimiscally themed pop up dinners around the city in the near future.

Speaking of seconds, Houndstooth follows up on the popularity of its Henderson Avenue spot with a move to open a second Dallas shop. The newest outpost will be the first of the shops to incorporate food, with plans for coffee and food pairings.
The shop will located in the Sylvan Thirty development, in the same building as fellow Austin-import Tacodeli. Look for an opening in spring of 2016.

Another popular drink spot that's adding some bites is popular Greenville Avenue bar the Single Wide, which has partnered with Yim Foods to serve locally pickled bar snacks at both of its trailers. Options include pickled Brussels sprouts, green beans, as well as chips and salsa.

Then, over in Deep Ellum, Braindead Brewing, will now be offering brunch, with an inaugural event taking place on Sunday, August 2. The menu will offer items like a bacon flight, featuring chicken-fried candied bacon, lamb and duck bacon, duck omelets and more. There will also be cidermosas, courtesy of Bishop Cider Co. The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, its neighbors at the soon-to-come Filament have pushed back their planned opening to October. The space has started to show signs of life in the meantime, though, with construction and a TABC application in the window, according to Dallas Eater.

Speaking of the state's beverage commission, the TABC has issued a warning to Gas Monkey Bar N' Grill for selling cheap alcohol at top shelf prices. After several samples were tested, only one suggested brand substitution, which could be chalked up to human error. As of now, the slap on the wrist is the extent of the punishment, joining a list of 14 other establishments to receive warnings, according to Dallas Morning News.

In other bar news, the owners behind Denton hotspots Lucky Lou's, Oak Street Drafthouse and EastSide Denton are partnering to open Dot's Hop House & Cocktail Courtyard in Deep Ellum. The bar and restaurant will be located in the former Dallas Comedy House space, with a proposed menu of Texas-style American cuisine. The crew is currently in the permitting process, with no word on an opening date.

In craft beer news: In craft beer news: Deep Ellum Brewing Co. has finally released a teaser trailer for its partnership with Jameson Irish Whiskey. The video mentions that the brew will be a sweet stout made with pecans for a Texas feel. Check it out.

Meanwhile, vintage video games and craft beer are joining forces with the opening of Free Play Arcade in Richardson. The venture will be a full-size retro arcade with 60-plus games, 25-50 beer options and an adult snack bar menu. Look for an opening as late as September.

Tonight, Grapevine Craft Brewery will be hosting a special tapping of its Chai Caramel Brown Ale. Then, on Saturday, August 1 from noon to 2 p.m., Community Beer Co. is hosting rally for the American Homebrewers Association. Attendees can network and renew memberships, with complimentary pints and discounted beer. Also on Saturday, Lakewood Brewing Co. is celebrating its third anniversary with a debut of its Lion's Share III. The event takes place from 12 to 6 p.m.

And finally, next Saturday, August 8, Local Brews Local Grooves takes place at the House of Blues. Guests can enjoy offerings from Four Corners, Franconia, Oak Highlands Brewing and more, as well as bites like beer braised bratwursts and fish and chips. Doors open for VIP at 3 p.m., with general admission at 4 p.m.
