Think Pink.
It's summer. It's hot. But that's OK, because, according to a story that's been printed in newspapers annually since their inception, all that heat makes possible quirky fun adventures like cooking outside. Fry an egg on the sidewalk, why don't ya? Bake some cookies or make chocolate-covered strawberries on your car's dash too, while you're at it.
The problem with any of these methods, though novel as they might be, is that they take about five times longer to make than just using the boring old oven. If you've just got to do it anyway, might we suggest stepping out for a bit during the cooking process? It should spice things up quite a bit.
To that end, we've got a boatload of suggestions. Besides, a watched pot never boils. Or something like that. — Cory Graves

Imagine Dragons at American Airlines Center
It's kind of amazing there's enough people still not sick of hearing “Radioactive” to sell out venues the size of the AAC all over the country on Imagine Dragons' current tour. Snatch at Inwood Theatre
Inwood Theatre's Midnight Madness is such a refreshing treat, especially because some of the films coming out lately have been less than perfect. It's because they play the classics almost everyone finds likable in some way or another. This is definitely one of Guy Richie's better films, with gems Benicio Del Toro, Brad Pitt and Jason Statham. Catch Snatch tonight at Inwood. — Diamond Victoria

Tanlines at Dada
In the years since its debut Mixed Emotions LP crash-landed onto the playlists of electronic-tinged indie pop fans everywhere in the summer of 2012, New York's Tanlines has undergone something of a substantial change. These days, the duo of Jesse Cohen and Eric Emm is taking a more humanistic approach its sound. And not necessarily by choice, either. When the band sat down to start work on Highlights, its May-released sophomore full-length, the computer it aimed to do so on blew up on a cloud of smoke — and literally at that, or so claims the band in its own press materials. Point is, the band was inspired to try something new. In turn, Highlights was written as fuller and more analog-oriented than the more electronic-dominated material of the band's past. Also? The band's upgraded to a quartet, at least in live settings. Now, armed with that bigger sound and some wider appeal thanks to a universally well-received web redesign stunt that saw its band web site turned into a Netflix rip, the outfit is taking its show to dynamic stages across the country as part of a tour that includes a stop at Deep Ellum's Club Dada. For more info on the show, check out our interview with the band here. — EH

Puerto Rican duo Jowell y Randy is one of the preminent acts in the Reggaeton game. More than just the Latin answer to hip-hop, the genre was created for the express purpose of dancing. Floor tickets are where it's at. — CG
Vanessa Peters at The Foundry (Free)
Dallas sees a lot of folky, indie pop musicians take its stages. Vanessa Peters, though, isn't just another passing face. Her latest album has been received pretty well among critics. Which makes sense, since it was created with the help of some alums in the biz like Apples In Stereo's John Dufilho and Old 97's producer Rip Rowan to name a few. She's playing a free show tonight at The Foundry. — DV
Convoy and the Cattlemen, Armadillo Creek at Double Wide

Death Grips at Trees (Sold Out)
If this actually happens, it'll be considered an act of god as Sacramento's Death Grips are famous for setting up and not playing, or not even showing up in the first place. Only time will tell whether we fall right into the guillotine. Tickets are long sold out, so don't even try. — EH
Steely Dan, Elvis Costello at Gexa Energy Pavilion
In 1972, Steely Dan released their debut release, Can't Buy a Thrill. That album, which featured lead singles “Do It Again” and “Reelin' in the Years,” helped launch the band's wildly successful 40-year career. Though recorded in the Can't Buy a Thrill sessions, the songs “Dallas” and “Sail the Waterway” weren't released on that album. Instead, they were put out separately as a single and b-side that same year. Here's the question: Was Dallas chosen as the song's setting simply because it conveniently rhymed with “palace” or did the city, in fact, have some sort of special meaning for songwriter's Donald Fagen and Walter Becker? In any case that's where their band — and Elvis Costello's, too! — will perform this weekend. — CG
Wreckless Eric, Salim Nourallah at Kessler Theater
Despite the fact that his biggest and perhaps only hit — “Whole Wide World” — can still be heard locally on KXT on a weekly basis, Wreckless Eric never really got his due. One of the founding fathers of simple-but-clever, three-chord '70s pop-punk movement, the performer born Eric Goulden has maybe best known for drunken onstage antics. We couldn't imagine the 60-year-old still hits the sauce quite so hard these days, though. — CG
Tamarron, Dripping Wet at Lion's Den
On its way home from tour, dreamy Austin outfit Tamarron is playing Denton's beloved Lion's Den which, as of late, is alive and well, hosting plenty of shows these last few months. Perhaps the true highlight of this show, is that Denton's own Dripping Wet is playing its second-to-last show, and possibly the last in its hometown. So anyone that missed out on tickets to Death Grips or just absolutely can't stand large crowds has a dreamy alternative. No Touching and Field Guide open. — EH
