In news that should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, the founder of Lebowski Fest was arrested for smoking weed at a bowling alley. Because, like, of course he was, man.
But, y'know, it's only fair. I mean, this is not 'Nam. This is bowling. There are rules.
Another thing you should find not surprising in the least at this point? The fact that there's tons going on around Dallas tonight. Here's but a few. Of course, you could always just say, “Fuck it; let's go bowling.” — Cory Graves
The Barenaked Ladies, Violent Femmes, Collin Hay at Verizon Theatre
You know the Violent Femmes from “Blister In The Sun,” for sure. And maybe from “Add It Up,” if only due to its role in Reality Bites. But the Femmes are so much more than that, an iconic American post-punk outfit with eight albums under its belt and a new fire in its members' bellies thanks to a 2013 reunion, and a brand new EP released this spring. Also, they're all acoustic. And they still rock hard as fuck. Respect your elders, kids. They're cooler than you'll ever be. Long-running Canadian outfit The Barenaked Ladies and Australia's Collin Hay also perform. — Pete Freedman
Marilyn Manson, The Smashing Pumpkins at Gexa Energy Pavilion
Suppose one found it in the heart to shell out dollar after dollar to relive some sort of childhood or adolescent memory. People do it all the time, so why not do it again as goth pioneers Marilyn Manson and alt-rock heroes The Smashing Pumpkins share a stage together as part of their “End Times” tour at the massive Gexa Energy Pavilion? One can only hope the two slip through their hits, otherwise you know, fans will feel ripped off or something. But it's 2015 and both have released plenty of new material since their heyday. — Evan Henry
Wreckless Eric, Salim Nourallah at Good Records (Free)
Despite the fact that his biggest and perhaps only hit — “Whole Wide World” — can still be heard locally on KXT on a weekly basis, Wreckless Eric never really got his due. One of the founding fathers of simple-but-clever, three-chord '70s pop-punk movement, the performer born Eric Goulden has maybe best known for drunken onstage antics. We couldn't imagine the 60-year-old still hits the sauce quite so hard these days, though. Tonight, he and Salim Nourallah are dropping by Good's Astro-turf stage to give a little preview of Sunday's Kessler Theater show. — CG
Dazed and Confused at Sundown (Free)
Haven't seen Dazed and Confused in a minute? It'd be a lot cooler if you had. No worries; no matter how old you get, it always stays the same. Anyway, you've just gotta check out what is arguably Mathew McConaughey's most iconic role. This flick from '93 takes us back to Austin, Tx in 1976 where high school was lame and you got your kicks riding around on the weekends, getting wasted, smoking pot and trying to fit in. — Diamond Victoria
Smoke Paint at Dan's Silverleaf
Earlier this year, Daniel Markham frontman Daniel Markham and Tony Ferraro + The Satans of Soft Rock frontman, Tony Ferraro, unveiled a new collaborative project and 10-track album called Smoke Paint. Tonight the duo — along with frequent collaborators Ryan Becker and Grady Sandlin — will perform a set of the new tunes, followed by a request set culled from the foursome's many joint projects. — CG
Trillwave at Beauty Bar (Free)
Austin native Josh Vela aka MSCLS joins the Trillwave crew as this week's special guest at their weekly Trillwave party. His music is a blend of house, electronic and techno, and features originals along with remixes of many big names in the genre including Diplo, 12th Planet and Zeds Dead. — DV
