Though Independence Day isn't officially until Saturday, a good many of us have the day off tomorrow, which means the holiday-ing will get underway this evening. It's a good one, too, as there's certainly a lot of places to do some celebrating tonight.
Just know this: This weekend, local police departments will conduct a No-Refusal DWI Initiative from 6 p.m. tonight to 6 a.m. Monday, during which they'll use warrants to obtain blood samples from anyone who refuses a Breathalyzer test.

Heartless Bastards, Craig Finn at Trees
Getting its start on the same label as fellow Ohioans The Black Keys (Fat Possum), this raw outfit has since moved beyond that sound. The recently released Restless Ones LP was recorded in El Paso with Dallas' John Congleton at the helm, and finds the band taking more chances sonically than ever before. Deep Ellum Comedy Crawl
Unlike the handful of other comedy events around town this weekend, this event is one that doesn't require you purchase tickets or a minimum amount of drinks — or even to hang around in the same venue all night, for that matter. Paul Varghese, Aaron Aryanpur and Dave Little will start the night out at the Three Links at 8 p.m. and then move things to Twilite Lounge and then Dada from there, performing short sets at each stop along the way. — CG
Barefoot at the Belmont at Belmont Hotel (Sold Out)
As KXT's Barefoot at the Belmont summer concert series continues to sell out, the acts involved only get bigger. This time around the popular area radio station has entitled hometown heroes Rhett Miller and Salim Nourallah. No explanation needed here. — Evan Henry
The Land Sharks at Panther Island Pavilion
If listening to Jimmy Buffet and The Beach Boys while tubing and drinking a beer sounds like a good time, then check out The Land Sharks, a Buffet and Beach Boys tribute band, at Panther Island Pavilion. After a near-decade of separation, London-based neo-soul poetry duo, Floetry has announced its first tour back in the game since 2007. With over 1.5 million albums sold, this performance at Medusa on Pacific should be nothing short of packed. So “Say Yes” before it's too late. — EH
Cut Copy DJs at It'll Do Club
Watch as the Melbourne-based electronic duo, Cut/ Copy exchanges its usual synth and drum machine output for a laptop and a pair of turntables, DJ-ing is musical interests to a relatively new audience. It'll Do resident, DJ Red Eye opens. — EH
Don't Think I've Forgotten: Cambodia's Lost Rock and Roll at Texas Theatre
Tracking the dangerous twist and turns of Cambodian rock 'n' roll during the mid-'70s is Don't Think I've Forgotten: Cambodia's Lost Rock N Roll a chronicling of the efforts put forth during the country's infamous wartime released earlier in 2014. Watch as the film graces the Texas Theatre for one night only. — EH
Aries Spears at Addison Improv
Though Spears is best known for his television work as part of Showtime series The Underground and holding the title of MADtv's second-longest tenured cast member, the comedian is no stranger to the stand-up game either. In fact, the 40-year-old Chicago native started receiving his first paying stand-up gigs when he was just 14. — CG
