Jameson Taps DEBC For A Specialty Brew, And Downtown Gets A Bourbon Bar.

Welcome to The Spread, our weekly feature that aims to share all the area restaurant, food and beverage industry news that's fit to print. Except, this is the Internet, so space isn't a concern. Also: Good thing, because this is Dallas and this town always has breaking restaurant news going down like whoa.

Changes are in store for the city's southern food options, y'all.

For one thing, chef Patton Robertson (Five Sixty) is taking over the helm as the new head chef at Sissy's Southern Kitchen & Bar. That news, meanwhile, piggybacks the announcement that Sissy's owner Lisa Garza-Selcer plans to open another venture downtown called Shelby Hall, where the menu will focus on low-country, Mississippi Delta cuisine and bourbon-heavy cocktails.

Sounds good, right? Sure, although not even these announcements are likely to quell Dallas' incessant burger obsession — a fixation that's now making its way onto brunch menus. At its McKinney Avenue location, Hopdoddy is now offering a brunch burger that features a spiced ham patty topped with melted swiss cheese, fried egg, avocado, tomato and sassy sauce on an egg bun. According to the press release, the burger is currently an off-menu item, but will be available indefinitely.

Over in Oak Lawn, savory cheesecake purveyor Val's Cheesecakes is opening a brick and mortar space next Tuesday, June 30. Flavors that will be available at the shop will include the company's famed brisket cheesecake, as well as other classic flavors like red velvet and strawberry. The grand opening party will go down from 6 to 9 p.m. on June 30. The shop's regular hours will be from 4 to 10 p.m. each Tuesday through Sunday.

In other sweets news, Celebrity Cafe & Bakery is moving from its original Highland Park Village space. The new location will be at the Shops of Highland Park in Oak Lawn, where only “signature bakery items” will be served by the end of this year, according to Eater Dallas. Look for an opening this November.

In craft beer news: LUCK is hosting part four of its doughnut and beer pairings this Sunday, June 28. Miniature doughnuts, courtesy of Glazed Donut Works, will be matched with brews from Revolver, Peticolas, Martin House Brewing and Community Beer Co.. Supplies are limited, so orders will be served on a first-come basis. And history tells us they go fast.

Meanwhile, Deep Ellum Brewing Co. was chosen along with four other U.S. craft breweries for some new collaboration brews with Jameson Irish Whiskey. Details are currently being kept under wraps, but you can look forward to the beer being available in DEBC taproom come August.

Over in Grapevine, Grapevine Craft Brewery is debuting its taproom and beer garden on Friday, July 10. The space will be open daily from 3 to 10 p.m., with a rotating line up of food trucks from 5 to 8 p.m.
