More Terrible News For TexMoji: An Actual, Real Taco Emoji Is Coming In Unicode 8.0.

Let's face it: Potential charms of Whataburger, Selena and Texas State Flag emojis aside, the real reason everyone was so excited about the arrival of the TexMoji app was because it promised within its arsenal the inclusion of the long-awaited, even petitioned-for taco emoji.

Well, bad news today for TexMoji — worse, even, than the fact that the app itself is something of a massive dud. Turns out, the folks behind the Unicode from whence our in-phone emojis come decided today to release the 8.0 installment of its system, wherein 37 emojis have been added — for in-line texting, not clip-art placing — including the elusive taco emoji. Joining the taco in this new unveil: Nerd Face, Unicorn, Popcorn, Face With Thermometer, Burrito and many, many more.

Now, granted, just because there's been a Unicode update doesn't necessarily mean that Apple, Droid and other operating systems will adopt it.

But, listen, if history holds, they will in due time.
